Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Johnson.
Bianca, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m Bianca Johnson, 28. I am from Atlanta, Georgia also where I current reside. I’m also a single mother of one. I’m currently a 6th Grade Title 1 Math Teacher. I currently hold a BA in Middle Level Education (Math & ELA) and working on my masters in Curriculum and Instruction. (BA-Georgia State University, MB- Western Governors University). I’ve been told that I’m a very optimistic individual that’s willing to take the initiative involving any vision that occurs.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
My life and accomplishments are built on the struggle! This has not been smooth for me at all and I’m not sure if it’ll ever be. That I’m okay with, as long as I can prevent others from feeling that same pain. I am a first generational graduate from both High School and College which was when I realized I was built to cause hell but create change! I’ve broken so many generational curses within my family that I’m determined to do anything I put my mind to. I’ve gone through just about anything anyone could ever imagine, a journey I also plan to share once I am ready to publish an autobiography. So when it comes to education and prison reform, there is no fear in my heart as I fight for the proper equality within my community, this may just be the easiest obstacle I’ll overcome.
Please tell us about your work.
My Business: Jackson Smith STEAM Charter School, while this will be a public entity, I am the founder and Chief Executive Officer/Director for this organization. I’m currently a title 1 Math Teacher, one that is known for many things. Effective strategies, creativeness, voluntary leadership, but most importantly, compassion, dedication and relativeness. What sets me apart from others is my dedication and determination, both driven by struggle. I don’t believe in excuses, what so ever. There were times where I faced homelessness and still excelled. This is why I take pride in not only challenging myself to do exactly what it is that I want to do but also in helping others do the same, starting with each student and parent I come across now and intend to come across during the grand opening of Jackson Smith. I take pride in knowing this was done for others and not myself! Many people care more for FOR-Profits. Well, me at 28 years young, I have a discerning passion for what a NON-Profit brings to the table for our communities as this is my second one in the making with more to come.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
A few things I Look Forward to, some that are currently in the making for both my business and myself:
-Several Podcast and Radio interviews
-Hosting several fundraising events
-Releasing an Autobiography
-Mental Health Awareness Events
-Focus on Education and Prison Reform
-Opening a restaurant and daycare at some point before retirement
Overall, I look forward to finding the proper funding for Jackson Smith STEAM charter school to be open (to all students of Fulton County) by School Year 2021. This is my first step in education and prison reform. I then look forward to opening several other schools based on educational equality and returning to school myself for ground breaking studies for prison reform. This in addition to the completion of my first ever fellowship with 4.0 Schools who inspired me that my goals were ground breaking!
