Today we’d like to introduce you to Bianca Mayti known professionally as Bink Badd.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Bianca. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
It all started back in 2014, I was at a pivotal place in my life, unsure of what to do next. I had recently had a baby, while in the middle of college and things got real, very fast. Prior to getting pregnant, I was an aspiring rapper and college student with a corporate career living the Atlanta dream with not a care in the world. Somehow parenthood wakes you up to another level of consciousness, and I started to have extreme anxiety about my looming student loan debt that would become due as my graduation date was nearing. I had to consider childcare expenses, student loan debt and balancing my finances I was overwhelmed, to say the least, and I gave up my dreams of becoming a rapper.
Now, for years, I had been the go-to person among my peers and family members seeking assistance with resumes, and finding decent jobs, because getting a job was my gift (keeping one was another story) by the time I was 21 I had held over 30 jobs. Not only was I a job getting guru, but I got the jobs that everyone wanted but could not get. I began to discuss finances with my fiancé and my concerns for our daughter. I did not want her to have to experience what we did, no support from our parents during college, having to work, and take out massive loans in order to afford our education, but how could we incorporate college savings into our budget with the new expenses? He suggested I start charging people for all the resumes I was doing for free, it may sound naive, but I did not realize at the time that this was something people would pay for. In fact, when I first got started, I sold resumes for $10 on Instagram because my confidence was so low. I got a lot of orders, and I did so many a week on the side in order to meet my savings goals. It was a side hustle for me and after I built up a reputation, I increased my price to $25.00.
I eventually graduated from college, went back to school for my master’s degree in Human Resource Management and started working on my music again. Life was going well. As my daughter began to get older, I was pleased with her savings account and I was feeling like we were on track to break a cycle of debt and unpreparedness. That is until her development started to take an unexpected path, she walked late, and her speech was not developing like other children her age. I thought of so many reasons, maybe I was trying to balance too much, I was not being a good mother, I was being too selfish, and so I reduced my hours at work, stopped doing so many resumes and quickly put her into different therapies to aide in her development, this sent me into a deep depression, but I managed to hang on and keep fighting.
After about a year in, I had nearly drained all of her savings, and then three months before I was set to graduate with my Master’s Degree in Human Resource Management, she was diagnosed with Autism I was devastated, although I had already suspected it nothing could have prepared me for this reality. I had no support from my family or my fiancé’s side of the family, friends did not understand, and we felt alone. We were emotionally and financially in ruins and unsure what the future held for us. I turned back to music; it was therapeutic for me. I released a couple of tracks on Instagram and people were supporting me. I became obsessed with Instagram; it was like I could escape my problems and take a break from reality.
As my popularity grew for music, coping with my depression and managing the demands of what was happening in my real became difficult and lifelines got blurry, I could no longer act like everything was okay and so I started to speak on the things I was going through. I was so surprised at the amount of support I was getting. Countless people reached out letting me know their special needs stories and a community was built. I had been operating two separate accounts of my personal/music page and my business page. I did not think that people would take my resume business seriously if they knew who Bink Badd was, my fiance, disagreed, he said people would definitely buy a resume from Bink Badd. So, in March of this year, I told everyone about my business and things took off. Within a month, we both had to quit our day jobs to work full-time for the business. People started to find out about my recruiting experience, advanced education and as the customers rolled in so did the testimonials. People were getting interviews, and jobs left and right.
Today, I am in a really great space, this business saved my life I am able to do something I am good at while helping and empowering people. I have more time to bond with my daughter and tend to her special needs and developmentally she is reflecting that. Life has meaning again and although many may not realize it More 4 Less Resumes is a tech start-up. We have plans to innovate the future of job hunting. This is a business I will be able to leave to my descendants. Specifically, my daughter, I plan to make More 4 Less Resumes an “Autism Friendly” workplace. This is bigger than resumes.
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been anything but smooth, from battling depression, suffering homelessness, having my child be diagnosed with Autism and constantly feeling like somehow I could have done something differently to prevent it. I cannot tell you how many times my personal life made me want to give up. How many times I actually gave up and restarted. It was never really the business it was always the things in my personal life creating barriers and obstacles to being successful in business.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the More 4 Less Resumes story. Tell us more about the business.
More 4 Less Resumes is a Tech Startup. I have over 5 years of recruiting experience, 5 years of resume writing experience and my Masters in Human Resource Management. I use this along with ongoing analysis of recruiting and hiring trends to create resumes that are highly responsive to applicant tracking systems. We specialize in helping individuals reach their career goals. We analyze and interpret their education, and experience against their strategic career goals and employ out of the box methods to make relevant connections. Our goal is to make the recruiters job easy by clearly stating the applicant’s relevancy to whatever field or position they are applying for. What sets us apart is that we do the applications on behalf of our clients. This enables us to connect applicants with positions they are likely to get a call back from, from a recruiters perspective, and it enables us to help clients get the experience they need to later qualify for their dream job.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Over the next five years, we plan to be the number one source for connecting clients and employers. We specifically wish to invest a large part of our business in supporting other small businesses with their hiring and human resource needs. We are set to unveil More 4 Less Pro in the first quarter of 2020. Essentially, More 4 Less Resumes will focus on quality placements. We know what people want to make, how they want to be treated and appreciated by the workforce. We plan to leverage this data to improve conditions in the workforce while streamlining recruiting and job hunting for businesses and job seekers.
