Today we’d like to introduce you to BigTeeff, Matt Ketchum.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I’ve been drawing and making art for as long as I can remember. For me it’s therapy just as much as a passion. I grew up drawing with my father, who is a great artist but never really pursued it fully. I decided that wasn’t going to be the case for me and that’s really pushed me as an artist to experiment and grow and ultimately led me to where I am now, and where I will be in the future.
Please tell us about your art.
I enjoy making characters, creatures, weird looking things that are in my brain. Some of my art hold meanings but most of my favorite pieces are very personal and I really couldn’t tell you what it meant. A lot of my art are therapy sessions I give myself, as strange as that sounds. I really enjoy creating with pen and ink as well as spray paint. If people take anything away from my art I hope it’s inspiration.
As an artist, how do you define success and what quality or characteristic do you feel is essential to success as an artist?
I can’t define what success is to someone else. My view of it is probably vastly different than others. I don’t define it as monetary. I feel the essential characteristic to being successful as an artist is not being afraid to fail and to keep pushing your art and experiment. You learn more from your failures than your victories.
How or where can people see your work? How can people support your work?
I’m trying to get a site up and running soon but for now I used social media mostly to showcase my work and sell my art. Just search BIGTEEFF on any social app and you’ll find me.
