Today we’d like to introduce you to Bill Johnston.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My best friend Stephanie found out she had cancer. When I heard I was devastated, especially when she told me the doctors said they would stop treating her because she had no more money. I couldn’t let that happen. So I got all the local punk bands together for a show at the famous Star Community Bar in L5P and put on a fundraiser. It raised enough for her to continue treatment and she is still a pain in my ass to this day. That was my first show. I still cry to this day thinking about it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m doing it mostly by myself, finding time for personal stuff has been a challenge and the stress. But to me it’s just an expensive hobby. Getting in direct communication with the decision maker of a band is always challenging as well as dealing with agents and avoiding corporate sponsorship
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am the sales and operating manager for a major tree service company in Atlanta. CR TREE EXPERTS. I sell and manage 4 separate 10-man crews that employ more than 55ppl. Small business is important to me.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
Something most people don’t know that would surprise them about me is my other hobbies. I custom-build BDSM equipment and love swing dancing!! I wish I had more time to do these things. Lol, 40 FEST is all-consuming.
