Meet Bill Walters of East Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bill Walters.

Hi Bill, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I ended up in an artistic/creative career because my life and my energy have always led me down that path. Since I was very young, music and musical instruments have sparked an intense curiosity in me that I still possess. I’ve had several hobbies and interests over the years but music and music gear has always remained my passion. I love music and I love playing guitar and making music with friends. I was lucky to connect with a brilliant musician and engineer named Tyler Petito, who was repairing guitar amps and working as a touring tech for rock bands when I met him in Decatur in 2013. He began growing his amp repair and music gear business, Acorn Amplifiers, in Atlanta and I came aboard as his apprentice. Over the years, the business grew with Tyler’s and my hard work and we became business partners as Acorn began to change from a repair shop to a production facility of our own Acorn-branded effects pedals and tube amps. Tyler took an engineering job at another tech startup and I became the owner of Acorn Amps as we now manufacture a vast array of electric guitar and bass guitar effect pedals and amplifiers with sponsored musicians and music gear distributors throughout the world.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Growing a small business is seldom a smooth and easy process. There have definitely been plenty of growing pains and hiccups along the way. Some of them are unexpected and unavoidable and other times you just have to learn by doing it wrong a few times.

One might think that guitar amp repair is a high niche market and that business might be slow, but it’s been the exact opposite ever since we opened for business in Atlanta.

It’s certainly a great problem to have, but juggling the constant flow of work in order to maintain a fast turnaround as well as finding time to continue to develop new pedal circuits to expand our line of Acorn Amps and Pedals has been a learning experience.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Acorn Amplifiers is a guitar amp company that builds meticulously-crafted, high-end amplifiers and effects pedals.

We design and craft quality, professional music gear for professional musicians.

I’m very proud of the reputation Acorn has developed in the music gear industry. We are becoming more and more known as the pedal company that makes fun and funny products that sound great and are built like a tank.

Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
Tyler Petito deserves the most credit out of everyone that has helped get us to where we are at. He is the founder of Acorn Amps and the most creative, brilliant, and capable person I know. Everybody that meets Tyler falls in love with him because he’s such a kind, funny, giving, and outgoing person. I got so lucky that I connected with Tyler when I did and we worked together well which is why we were able to build the business to where we are today and how we continue to grow every year.
