Meet Bobby and Zena Lukatos of Bobby’s Bike Repair, Sales and Service in Morrow

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby and Zena Lukatos.

Bobby and Zena, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When Bobby and I met in 2010, on our first date, when he came to pick me up from home, he brought a bicycle with him, and at that time I was living in Austell Georgia near the Silver Comet Trail. I thought it strange at first, but, after dating for a few weeks, I later learned that he had a love of bicycles. Whenever we went out, we would always end up somewhere that involved bicycles. On the days we would hang out at my house, I could always expect to see him and whatever new bicycle he had just acquired.

At that time, I had an enormous oak tree in the front yard and Bobby would manage tie the bicycle to the tree and he would either try to do some repairs or just take it apart and put it back together again. After several months of this, and later learning that he owned about 10 different bicycles himself…. he had them piled on a tiny little 5×5 balcony at his apartment, it occurred to me that this man had a love of fixing and tinkering with bicycles. One day I mentioned to him, that he should take this passion and turn it into a business. He was not at all thrilled with the idea, he just said, “I just want to fix my own bikes, not anybody else’s.”

I said to him, “let your job fund your passion, till your passion becomes your job”. After going back and forth for about 3 years with this idea, I told him, if we ever decided to get married we are going to start this business. We were married on April 28, 2013 and we stared Bobby’s Bike Repair and Sales and Service from our home on May 1, 2013. Now we live in Morrow, GA and 4 years later our business is booming. During that time, we also acquired a contract to repair Bicycles for “Play It Again Sports” in Fayetteville, Ga. We not only just repair bicycles, we also sale bicycles, parts and accessories, all from the comfort of our home.

Has it been a smooth road?
Over the past 4 years, there have been some struggles along the way with operating a bicycle repair shop from our home. We moved from a large 2000 sq. ft. farmhouse to a much smaller 1400 sq. ft. townhouse a year after starting Bobby’s Bike Repair, so you can image the challenges in having bikes, bike parts, cycling clothes, shoes, and helmets take over your life and your home. There are times when I have to share my small galley kitchen with mountain bikes or road bikes, all while I’m trying to cook dinner, lol, or having complete strangers in and out of your home 6 days a week, either coming for bike repair or to purchase a bike or accessories….God has truly been with us and keeping us safe through this entire journey. Oh, did I mention that Bobby works a full-time job in addition to repairing bikes?

So, the challenge is even greater because during the day, I’m the one that handles the influx of people in and out, and I also operate another business from home as well, but all and all, we have each other and the love of our perfect creator to get us through the tuff times.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Bobby’s Bike Repair and Sales and Service – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
When we started Bobby’s Bike Repair and Sales and Service in May of 2013, we only repaired bikes and sold bikes that we acquired from various sources. But we later discovered that we were getting calls for parts and accessories as well as calls for bicycles tools. We were getting several calls from consumers looking to purchase bikes more so than repairs, so in the beginning, we sold quite a few bikes, sometimes, 3 or 4 a day. I guess you can say we specialize in sales during the summer and more repairs during off-peak season.

What makes us really proud of our business is that we can operate from our home, and most people don’t seem to mind, in fact, we have more support and appreciation from our customers because we operate our business from home, and because of that. we can give each customer more one on one time.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
We really don’t have any dislikes about our city, in fact, it is because we are in the city that our business is thriving.

    Bobby’s bike repair, they do a great job they fixed my Grandsons bike and now he’s excited to be riding again I would encourage any to to have there bike repaired at bobby’s and or purchase a bike, great Christian People, Thank God for them.

    These are great what really stood out to me beyond the AWESOME customer service is that they work very good together as a couple in there family business and the bicycle accessories they sold with the excellent bike repair that was done on several bikes over a period of time, so let’s just say I am a repeat satisfied customer.
