Today we’d like to introduce you to Bobby Fisher.
Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in Virginia Beach Virginia. Played bass in a post punk band, moved to NYC in 1985. Worked in restaurants, met an ex pro skate boarder/photographer; who just finished assisting Annie Lebowitz to go out on his own. He hired me as an assistant, from the kitchen to the studio! I assisted many different photographers of the day, mainly fashion (super model era). Ventured out on my own after many yrs. of assisting. I started in fashion, then moved to Travel. Traveled the world shooting stories for GQ, T&L, CNT, Gourmet mag. and many others. This was before chefs were “rock stars”, and when magazines had money.
Please tell us about your art.
I’m a commercial photographer, which theoretically supports my “art”. I suppose that when I take a picture that inspires me, I want that same feeling transmitted when other people look at it. I have shown every couple of yrs., of my non-commercial work.
We often hear from artists that being an artist can be lonely. Any advice for those looking to connect with other artists?
Get out from under the computer, do the work, support other artists by just going to their shows. and/or collaborating.
