Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonita Jalane.
Bonita, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Singer-Songwriter from Brooklyn New York living in Atlanta over eight years so I consider myself an apple peach smoothie. I moved Atlanta doing music with my mentor. He helped develop me as an artist. Not only DO I DO MUSIC I host a tv show called R&Blive that premieres on Comcast midnight channel 26 on Fridays here in Georgia. Now as an independent artist I am working on my new project “introducing Bonita Jalane ” which is a full visual EP.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
IT has been a journey!!! Ups and downs bumps and potholes. But I wouldn’t trade the journey (well some of it) I have been grateful to open for and work with amazing artist and talents such as (Chris Brown, Trey Songz, Fantasia, Lil MO, Ro James, Damien Escobar) But with the ups, there have been disappointments. In 2016 I decided to get a full-time job to help fund my music and lifestyle, so as much as been a blessing to fund my own studio time, shows, travel and band artist budgets I miss some opportunities that come up. I was fortunate to open on tour for Emmy Award-winning Damien Escobar 2 years in a row.
So imagine opening for sold out shows in Florida, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, LA people lined up to buy merchandise and music or to take a picture with me to go back to work (reality) and considered another co-worker. But it’s all apart from the journey. I had to take a break in 2017 which made my 3rd project “introducing Bonita Jalane” get put on hold. My mom (my world I’m the only child) had open heart surgery and I stopped everything to help her recover for almost six months in New York. But I have been back on the grind and the project is dropping this year which is a full visual EP. The struggle with being independent is that everything is on me (why I work for now). But I’m the creative so I have to be the manager and the label. I have a great assistant but ultimately it all falls on me.
Please tell us about Bonita Jalane.
Singer-Songwriter from Brooklyn New York who also hosts a TV show on Comcast channel 26. Being a Host, I have the opportunity to share my platform with other creatives who have been on their own journeys. I have had legends like (the rude Boys, Tracy Spencer, Terry Lewis) to up and coming artists such as Dondria, Tiffany Evans, AlieonCraft and other local Atlanta artists. I get to share my platform with others who understand you. With this it makes me a better artist and songwriter, I keep going and don’t give up no matter what obstacles because I still love it.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would learn more from my mentors and peers doing the same thing and apply it to my daily journey. Remember to cherish relationship and keep the lines of communication open from the beginning that’s the only thing I would change.
