Born to a 17-year old single mother and missing father, Dr. Boyce Watkins rose out of extreme poverty to become one of the world’s leading financial experts.
Dr. Watkins has shared his message with millions, appearing on major media outlets including CNN, ABC News, NBC and others. He also has over a million followers on Youtube and several million followers on Instagram and Facebook.
Dr. Watkins has changed the definition of what it means to be a black scholar and leader in America. In the course of over 18,000 videos, speeches and articles, Dr. Watkins has encouraged millions of followers to embrace strategies of generational wealth as a solution to the problems that plague our community.
Even more, Dr. Watkins considers The Family to be the center of economic progress and has convinced millions to become consistent investors in the stock market. He chose to leave his position on the faculty of Syracuse University to found The Black Business School, which has over 150,000 students around the world, who receive a high quality, college-level business school education for a fraction of the cost.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
The obstacles Dr. Watkins has faced to reach success consist of overcoming extreme poverty, not having his biological father in his life, and also being the first in his family to get a PhD. In fact, Dr. Watkins was the ONLY African American in the world to earn a PhD in Finance when he graduated in the year 2002.
Additionally, Dr. Watkins was able to create a global impact with his business model without any bank financing or significant economic support that is typically provided to many start-up companies.
Any advice for finding a mentor or networking in general?
Mentorship is extremely important. You must find someone who aligns with your goals and who is willing to invest time into you to ensure your growth. You know when you have found a good mentor. It just feels right!
