Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon J. Anderson Sr.
Brandon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started in this industry as a young child between the age of 8-9 years old working as a summer job with my uncle Naji at his print shop All-Star Screen Printing in East Lake. Growing up, it was cool watching my uncle, who employed mostly family members to run multiple storefronts and street locations throughout the City of Atlanta. My cousins and I worked in the warehouse, either printing or folding shirts. Creatively, I’m heavily influenced by the rich Atlanta music culture. (Outkast, Kilo Ali, and Goodie Mob) to name a few.
I was on vacation in Orlando, Florida with a shirts I created for my wife and I that simply said (I love ATL) and I had several people stop me during the day and ask where did we get it from and how could they order. This is when the wheels begin to turn. www.coveredcustoms.com was a big what if at first… I had the idea but not the how and strategy for execution. The idea was how can I give someone that wants to represent the culture of Atlanta the ability to customize/purchase from anywhere. I searched online and found a website builder service and had a conversation with my uncle Naji on what type of equipment I would need and business license I would need to acquire. Fast forward 3 years later we are here! The first shirt I produced on my website was the “I really caught the 86 Lithonia Headed to Decatur” which has still been a consumer favorite. Since opening I’m proud to say we’ve exceeded my expectations. Working with Colleges, High Schools, Corporations, Small business owners and Restaurant owner.
Has it been a smooth road?
The biggest challenge I would say is finding a good balance between family and meeting the demands of a growing business. However, I have a great support team, and my family is always the number one priority.
Please tell us about your business.
The name ‘Covered” is a true representation of my life, understanding that God is always in control and will always guide my path. During the highs and lows, the one constant has been the Mercy of God’s protection. “Customs” we give our customers the freedom to express their culture on anything they would like to have customized. Covered customs is a brand that is true to the roots of Atlanta but has a vision to expand worldwide. We have a passion for creating preeminent apparel and building everlasting relationships.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Atlanta is a city of go getters, dreamers, and trailblazers. Atlanta is so dope for so many reasons. Good food, excellent entertainment, and endless opportunities for entrepreneurs. There isn’t very much I dislike about Atlanta. If I had to say one thing would be back in the day, we took pride in looking out for the elders in the community showing the utmost respect. It’s so disheartening seeing violence of any kind but especially against the people who paved the way for us.
