Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Humphries.
Brandon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a child, I have always been inspired by my Grandmother. To further my education in the culinary world, I attended Helms College and was a part of the culinary arts program. My goal is to pursue a career in the food and beverage industry with the drive to own my own food truck or restaurant. To begin the process, I purchased a snow cone machine and a cotton candy machine for my nephew’s first birthday. From the feedback of those who attended and the sugar rush of the kids, his birthday was a success. The sugar rush of the kids is what led me to call the company: Sugar Rush.
From there, I was inspired by the support of family and friends to start doing birthday parties by renting out the machines. The Sugar Rush pop-up shop was birthed. Successfully, we got busy! Every weekend, we were doing birthday parties! Then, we were invited to back-to-school bashes, festivals, family reunions, fundraisers, church events, etc. The accomplishments of these events encouraged a high following and demand for our products. The pop-up shop was no longer catering to the demand of customers. Thus, we purchased a concession trailer. The concession trailer was spacious enough to carry more products and the ability to be mobile. From there, we enhanced the name to Sugar Rush on Wheels. Now, we can better serve the communities and past, present, and future customers.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
This road has not been a smooth road to say the least. To start and maintain the business in alignment with the growth of the business has been rather challenging. Some of the struggles we have had to face along the way were to set up/break down the pop shop, finding support to load the car with materials needed, and working the events. Most of the struggles have been alleviated when the concession trailer was purchased.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Sugar Rush On Wheels story. Tell us more about the business.
Sugar Rush on Wheels is the name of the company. I offer freshly made cotton candy and refreshing cold snow cones. I offer business to birthday parties, festivals, corporate events, camps, school events, church events, family reunions, and vending services. Our company is known for our freshly made cotton candy and its many flavors, which sets us apart from others.
I am most proud of the growth of the business and the number of satisfied customers. Whenever I see a customer so pleased with the product that they post about it online, it is worth all of the struggles and mountains that were faced to get this point.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck has not been something that has played a part in the business. It’s more a work of hard work. We take it one day at a time and cater as much as possible to the customers.
