Meet Brandon Jacobs of Imaxb

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Jacobs.

Brandon, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My journey started with me being inspired by quality photos, I had an eye for quality and its one of my biggest pet peeves when it comes to doing anything, have quality work. When I see a photograph or video so clear that it makes me seem as if I’m there, it inspires me. In my early high school days, the closest thing to getting a quality camera was an iPhone. iPhones were killing the game with their camera quality, so I’d use my phone as my camera. I’d find ways to make an iPhone look like a top-notch Canon or Sony camera. A small amount of people would even ask me if I had a camera, and I would say no of course. I mastered the art of “using what I have” at that time.

Every time Apple would come out with a new iPhone, I’d look at it as if I was upgrading to a better DSLR or mirrorless camera. I wasn’t getting the newest iPhone every release to try and keep up with the latest trends, I looked at it as a practice tool to help me achieve what I wanted, quality photos. I never had intentions of actually becoming a photographer/music video director. Long story short, I woke up one day after a stressful night at working at Pizza Hut I woke up and said, “I want to buy a Cannon rebel T6′. It’s the only camera I knew at that time with quality photos for a beginner, so I searched around and I broke the bank with my first investment of $500. After that, another investment which led me to where I am today. I had one penny left in my savings account, after I cashed out for my second camera and some gear. I’d do it all over again to elevate and achieve what I want to see. I got exactly where I am by hard work, determination and most importantly , God.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been an easy road by far. There were several obstacles and challenges that I have had to overcome and understand. One of those obstacles is patience. I had to learn to have patience with myself to give myself time to grow and develop into what I see myself as. I had to learn that I’m not going to the top overnight and I’m not going to be the best two days after purchasing a camera. It all takes time. It takes patience to understand that people aren’t going to be digging my style immediately, but I have to be patient to watch my style grow like a tree. I used a tree because trees do not grow fast like a flower and a flower is easily destructible in a slight storm, a tree is not. A tree is rooted, the longer that tree is there, the deeper the roots go into the ground. The same goes for this road. The longer I grow and develop, the deeper my roots are planted. With having deeper roots this gives me the ability to withstand any storm.

Another obstacle I had to face was being around new people and large crowds, on a consistent basis, I had a social confidence issue and when I first started it was sort of bad, I even turned down some opportunities because I didn’t want to be around unfamiliar people and large crowds. I didn’t have tunnel vision at the time, but now I do. The minute I realized where I can go, I locked in on where I wanted to be and made an oath to myself to not let nothing stop me. I had to care less about what people thought about me.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
I am a Music Video Director and a Photographer. I’m most proud of my company in the way that have grown from the past years. I think what sets me apart from others is how far I will go to make sure everything is what my client asked for and the way I communicate.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I’m proud everyday to be blessed with a gift to where I can hear a song and turn it into a visual for people or even look at the most random thing and find a way to get an idea from it.
