Meet Brandon Jones of DaNine

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Jones.

Hi Brandon, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
As a child, I loved drawing. I didn’t know what I would do with it as a child, but everyday I was drawing, paint, or designing graphics on my computer. This was around the age of nine. My parents put me in art classes where I was able to grow my skills. As time passed, I started customizing clothes for my friends. At that time it was just a hobby for me.

Once I got out of high school, I went into the military for 8 years. My drawing and painting stopped around that time but I got into photoshop and mastered how to use it.

Once I got out the military, I was helping others design their clothes for their brands. Some on my brothers told me I should start my own brand but I wasn’t thinking about doing it at the time. I was focused on being a graphic designer. One night while just playing around on photoshop, I created a design for a shirt but didn’t have a name for it. It hit me that this could be my brand. The only problem was coming up with a name to call it. I came up with DaNine. It stands for 229, which is the area code where I’m from. I use DaNine for short. I think the name will put a light on that area of Georgia.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth rode. Finding manufactures to make the clothes you like and making sure the quality is good can be hard. Being that things are made in China and Pakistan, it can take up to 60 to 75 days to sample and manufacture one product. When I started I was also new so I didn’t have any knowledge of the clothing game.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
So I’m Brandon but everyone know me as Rab. I have a clothing brand that’s called DaNine. It’s a brand made for the culture. My brand is made to show people that you can do anything if you put your mind to it. I know this is said all the time but I am living proof. When I started my brand, I didn’t have any knowledge of starting a clothing brand. The only thing I knew how to do was create designs for the brand. I looked and researched until I found what I was looking for. It’s still a learning process to this day.

Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
The main thing is just to start. A lot of people wait months or even years to start a business because they don’t know where to start. I really believe that things will work itself out if you just start. Once you do, you will see what you need to do or what steps you may have missed. Being that I’m big on research, I think I’m happy I started not knowing anything. It helps me understand and really appreciate the things I found out more rather than the knowledge being giving to me.
