Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Morris.
Brandon, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’m an actor that moved to NYC in 2008. As my day job, I worked backstage for Theaters and special events doing carpentry or lighting. In 2013, a buddy of mine got a puppy and asked me if I could check in on her while he was at work. He offered me money but I didn’t take it (at first) because I was just doing him a favor. Then another friend found out I was doing that and asked if I could check in on her dog every once in a while. I couldn’t have pets in my apartment so I saw this as a great opportunity to hang out with some dogs. I’ve always loved dogs and had them around my whole life. I saw there was a need for dog walkers in my neighborhood so I turned it into full time work. In 2014, I left the backstage stuff and started BranDog full time. I quickly had a nice client base and was making a decent living. All while still being able to act (on TV and stage) when the opportunities presented themselves. I moved to Atlanta towards the end of 2016 to continue my acting career. I wasn’t sure I would continue with dog walking because I didn’t know if there was a need. I recently realized there was a need so I started to drop off business cards and let people know I was open for business. I now have a small group of dogs in Cabbagetown with spots open for more!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been completely smooth. I did a lot of advertising and talked to lots of people to get more clients. I had to hustle a bit. It was also difficult in the beginning to balance dogs with going on auditions and shooting stuff. I ended up having a few assistants that really helped to free up some of my time. Also, the weather could be a beast. I walked all year long in the harshest winter conditions and the hottest summer days. Also, there were dogs that were a lot harder to work with than others. Some were aggressive, some were not social, some didn’t like the snow…or the rain… or the heat. Some just didn’t feel like walking at all. These were all things that I had to learn to deal with and figure out how to make it work. I’m now a seasoned pro at dealing with the numerous obstacles that can come up in any given situation.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Kind of an odd question but I guess it would be a time I went to the zoo with my mom and my buddy. I was maybe 6 or 7. They had a cool train that ran through the entire place. Just a great day.
