Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenden Toles.
Brenden, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I got my start when I was just 15 years old (I’m 21 now so you do the math), a sophomore/junior in high school, not really knowing what a camera was until about three to four months in and I picked up my first film camera, it sounds basic but it was a Canon AE-1, old but very reliable. After five months of having it, I got really bored of it because at the time there wasn’t anywhere for me to develop my film so I switched to digital. The first digital camera I got was a Canon T5, that was my full official start in digital photography. I really had to get used to the different settings and what not so I would go around my area and take pictures of buildings, grass and people walking around. Fast forward two years later and my camera gets stolen. Easily bounced back from that situation and picked up a Canon 70d (which is my primary/daily camera I still use till this day). Ever since I got the camera, I started dabbling in the portrait and fashion scene of photography and developing my skillset in it.
Has it been a smooth road?
There’s been a couple of struggles down the road and also mistakes but that’s just apart of life. Especially living in a city that doesn’t understand the type/style of photography that I do.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
My business (morebrenden or popsthegod) is very near and dear to my heart. My editing style and photography is what sets myself apart from others. I would say the key thing that I specialize in is portrait photography. Being able to incorporate your everyday object into a picture can separate yourself from the others.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I would say Downtown Montgomery, it has its ups and downs but its ups would have to be the scenery, it’s constantly developing and a lot of photographers and artist are starting to pop up all over the city. Its downs would more likely be not being able to cater to a different style of art.
