Today we’d like to introduce you to Brent Benson.
Brent, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After high school, I was present with an opportunity to play college basketball at Texas State University. Shortly after graduation, I was also given the amazing opportunity to begin my overseas journey. During this new journey, the idea of B3 Academy was originated. It was initially created to give back to others what the game of basketball has given to me.
I wanted to create a platform to help young athletes, both on and off the court, and provide structure, discipline, and accountability. Our goal is to develop fundamentally sound athletes, and prepare them physically, mentally, and emotionally to play at their full potential. But within B3, it’s more than just basketball. We passionately want to instill the internal confidence of a player, in addition to enhancing their external skills since the origination of this idea.
B3 Academy has grown tremendously and is continuing to grow! Our program now consists of team/individual skill development, competitive seasonal basketball leagues, youth tournaments, player placement and exposure, and fundraiser and charity events.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not always been a smooth journey. During my active seasons, there were times when I’d been released by teams due to management decisions. In addition, during the early stages of B3, the participation level was not always at its maximum potential, but with determination, hard work, and the support of those who believed in my vision, things began to fall into place.
B3 Academy – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Basketball allows us to help educate, mentor, and benefit our athletes of all ages through camps, celebrity games, and men’s leagues, which in return creates opportunities for our athletes to pursue their dreams and better themselves in all aspects of life.
At B3Academy we take pride in developing student-athletes on and off the court. We strive to perfect the fundamental elements of basketball in each and every player through hard work and dedication.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
In 2015, we were able to help 11 unsigned seniors gain college scholarships. We have a 99% high school graduation rate. Over the course of the B3 Academy program, we have guided 193 students to success.
