Today we’d like to introduce you to Brett Silverman, DDS, MAGD.
Brett, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I am a fourth generation dentist, Master of the Academy of General Dentistry, and a best-selling author with a true passion for the art of dentistry and caring for my patients. Over twenty years ago, I was recruited to Georgia to join a private practice and serve the community of Duluth.
After practicing there for eighteen years, four years ago, I decided to move to Alpharetta to better serve my patient base. Here, I was able to build the modern, state of the art facility that I had always dreamed of for myself, my staff and my patients.
An added benefit to the new larger facility is it enables me to host and participate in the Dentistry from the Heart program. Along with dentists from other specialties, and their staff, we provide a day of free dentistry for those in need. To date, we have helped over 400 people with cleanings, fillings and extractions.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has always been my focus to do what is right for the patient – to treat the patients the way I would want myself and my family to be treated. There has been tremendous pressure to be influenced by insurance companies and corporate dentistry to reduce the care and time spent with each individual. For medical institutions it’s definitely going against the grain.
In today’s world, its acceptable behavior to herd patients in and out of a waiting room – day in and day out; all while the patient experiences unbelievable wait times. Patients lose their identity and just become a number or a procedure. They no longer have a voice, and they no longer have a name. We decided to go back to the way it was, a caring doctor and staff, caring for a person.
Advanced Cosmetic & Family Dentistry – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our practice focuses on caring for the individual and all of their unique needs. Every day we strive to go beyond your expectations. It is testament to the fact that we see generations of patients- some traveling from other states and countries to see us!
I believe in taking the conservative approach when it comes to a patient’s restorative needs. I also believe that the patient deserves to be well -informed and given every option available for their particular case. It is empowering to the patient -reducing anxiety and allowing them to feel in control of their healthcare. To this end- it separates my practice from all others.
Only the finest materials and state -of -the -art equipment are used at my office. In fact, we now have a new anesthesia delivery system available (for the smile zone) in the form of a nasal spray. No more dreaded needle!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
One of my most proud moments was certainly when I achieved my Mastership from the Academy of General Dentistry (MAGD). The MAGD designation reflects a dentist’s ongoing commitment to provide quality care through continuing education. Dentists who achieved this distinction make up less than 1% of dentists in the country. Not only did I achieve this Award, but I had to attain a special waiver as I was the youngest member ever receive it at the age of 32.
