Today we’d like to introduce you to Brette Allen.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Brette. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was born and raised in Hiawassee, GA. After I graduated from Augusta State University with a bachelors degree in Marketing, I came back and opened a women’s clothing boutique, North and Main Clothing Company that has now been open for 12 and half years. The local area had no where easily accessible to shop so there was a definite demand to have a clothing store.
Over the years, I have met amazing people and have been able to grow the store beyond the brick and mortar. We expanded to online (northandmainclothingco.com) and couldn’t be happier meeting this new community. Locally and online everyone has been very supportive.
The brick and mortar allows us to employee local women and men from a wide spread of ages. College, high school and graduates have the opportunity to come and use their talents to help the business grow and display their unique creativity.
Has it been a smooth road?
Nothing that is easy is worth having. With that being said, everything life has given me as a test, I try to turn it around into a positive step forward. Each bump in the road whether it be employee issues, managing, fluctuations in the demand of fashion, etc. We turn each experience into something we can learn and grow from.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the North and Main Clothing Company story. Tell us more about the business.
North and Main Clothing Company is for the everyday women. We offer personal styling in-store and online. We are dedicated to dressing every age from head to toe. We offer brands such as Democracy, Multiples, Fossil, Steve Madden, Chinese Laundry, Matisse. We provide a large variety in style and trends; from dresses to jumpsuits, basic tees and a great pair of jeans. Also, shoes are our thing. We get so excited every show to choose the new shoes for the season.
We are most proud to compete in the highly competitive retail world of online shopping. Due to the site, we have been able to grow by hiring new employees. The ability to grow without opening up more brick and mortar stores and to reach customers across U.S. has been amazing.
What sets us a part from other boutiques is the variety and volume of merchandise that we carry. We cover every age group, plus we have an outfit for every event.
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Fashion has become more localized with people wanting more of the boutique experience and less of the department store.
Over the next few years we anticipate locally owned stores to grow by listening to their customers and staying relevant to their lifestyles.
