Meet Breuana Murphy of Pink Nookie

Today we’d like to introduce you to Breuana Murphy.

Hi Breuana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2017, I was pregnant with a baby boy and his testosterone kept my pH thrown off. It seemed like every appointment I went to I was being treated for yeast or BV. This went on for so long that I eventually built up a resistance to the antibiotics. Knowing that medicine wouldn’t work for me, I had to come up with a holistic remedy for the issues I was experiencing. I created an oil that I used to help with my symptoms that I called Lip Gloss. After seeing how good it worked for me during and after my pregnancy, I began giving samples away to family and friends. Their response was so good that I began to buy packaging and sell it.

Once I began doing this as a business, I rebranded and changed the name to Nookie Glaze. The support I got from my hometown of Indianapolis was amazing. I have a store location there that does very well. In January of 2021, I went viral with two reels getting over 1.2 million views each and that is how I captivated the rest of the world and grew my platform. I now have a viral Facebook group of over 8k women worldwide who shop with me called The Nookie Club. I have since relocated to Georgia with the hopes of having the same success here.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
This road has been anything but smooth. When I first started my brand, my husband was addicted to heroin. I was working full time plus trying to build a brand just to pay the bills. I remember times that I had to go and steal my ingredients or use my EBT card just to have what I needed to fulfill my orders. Once my husband got sober and my brand took off, I was no longer the joke that people saw me as. I’ve lost friends and family because rather than be happy for me, they couldn’t rap their minds around how I was just so low and came up so fast. People became entitled to my success that they didn’t help build.

When you go viral your reach expands to so many different people from different walks of life and it showed me that many women are uneducated on their bodies and how they work. I also am still searching for a good team. Since my products are handmade, it’s hard trying to produce the products as fast as the consumer may want. But all in all, regardless of how hard this has been, I wouldn’t change it for the world. The reward of knowing I did this with no handout is so much greater than anything else.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Pink Nookie is an all-natural handmade feminine care brand. We specialize in helping women become more confident with their bodies through their self-care regimen. We are known for our Nookie Glaze which has not only helped women eliminate yeast and BV but has also helped thousands conceive.

I am most proud of maintaining the integrity of my brand. When I went viral, everybody encouraged me to find a vendor that could mass-produce my products and fulfill orders faster. But I am more concerned about having a product that actually works and is safe for our bodies. A vendor may have ingredients that cause the very issues I am trying to prevent.

I believe the thing that sets us apart are that we are still handmade, family owned and operated even with our success. It takes real dedication to run a brick-and-mortar location and ship thousands of orders each month without a vendor. Outside of being handmade, I am also proud that our products do exactly what we say they will do. There is no better feeling than when our customers reach out with their success stories. We also have a men’s line called For Him products. That is also something not a lot of brands are doing.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important thing I have learned is to go at my own pace. Social media will have you discouraged in all actuality a lot of people are pretending anyway.
