Thanks for sharing your story with us Bria. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Candles by OPG is a company owned by me and my mother. For years, we have been making DIY crafts and have now ventured into creating one-of-a-kind scented candles in beautiful teacups. Founded in Atlanta, Georgia, inspired by women and their roles in all of our lives, Candles by OPG uses teacups and turn them uniquely scented, soy-based candles. We hope that our love of antiques, china, and sustainability will bring a unique experience into everyone’s home!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The impetus of the company was our response to COVID-19, jolting what was suppose to be a memorable family gathering. In March 2020, My mother was honored to host a bridal shower for her niece. However, the COVID 19 pandemic impacted what was planned to be a great Southern Brunch. A gift to the guests was a teacup of their own selection. Over fifty china teacups were collected for the event, however, only a few guests gathered in person while others joined virtually.
So we thought, what do we do with so many beautiful teacups? We decided to make candles. Our intent is to bring joy and light into homes where our candles burn.
Please tell us about Candles by OPG.
Our fragrances tell a story. Candles by OPG is inspired by women who have had an impact on my life. These women are mothers, sisters, daughters, and mother-figures. Each scent was crafted with them in mind. Every fragrance is an inspiration for another, just like strong women.
We also focus on sustainability. Candles by OPG understands the role we all play in decreasing our carbon footprint and the importance of sustainability. We hope to find a way to reduce the number of resources and tools needed to produce goods. One way that we are committed to doing this by repurposing items, like teacups.
By focusing on fragrance crafting and sustainability, we have had so many customers share with us how the candles have gotten them through their own trials and reminded them of dynamic women in their lives.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
We are still learning! Since this is a young business, we are developing our expertise in all things candle, from the type of wax to the best essential oils. My mother and I know that life is full of lessons, each day we must be open to learning.
