Meet Brian Carmichael of BrianCMedia Video and Photo

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Carmichael.

Brian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always been interested in creating videos. As a child, movies were always a way for me to escape reality. When one of my friend’s father needed a business video for his CrossFit affiliate, I jumped at the opportunity. I love fitness and I love creating videos, so this was the perfect opportunity for me. CrossFit Tilt in Waltham, MA was where I made my first advertisement video ever. After making some videos for CrossFit Tilt, other affiliates began to reach out to me and requested my services. It has been fun to meet so many new people along the way.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not been a smooth road for me. I’m young, only being 19 years old, there isn’t a huge demand for my services. I had to prove to every client that I am just as capable as the professionals that have been at it for years. Because of my age, many clients assume they can get away with giving me less of a pay than they normally would. I always try to tell everyone who judges my age that film making is not about how long you have held a camera, instead it’s all about what you have between the ears. I believe that although I have not been wielding a camera as long as my fellow videographers, I have the vision to outwit most of them.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I run a video/photo company. Basically, I come to a specific business and create an advertisement video to capture aspects of the company that an owner wants to display. Whether it be the atmosphere, the beautiful facilities, or the people who participate in the business, I make a videos that interest people to walk through the door. I am most proud of the stories I have captured thus far. I was able to film an 83 years old doing Crossfit, and it wasn’t until I interview her that I discovered she was doing it so she could take care of her dying husband. The thing that sets my business apart from the others is my loyalty to companies. I will do anything to please my clients, whether that makes the video double the length for the same pay or completely change the clips being shown. All I want is to make the best content I can to please myself and my clients.

What were you like growing up?
I have always been a happy kid. Always smiling and making jokes. My interests always lied in entertainment. I love having the ability to create an emotion from a person. Being able to make people laugh, cry and smile are the best things about what I do.
