Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Pruett.
Hi Brian, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I have always done some kind of fundraising, starting back in elementary school, Pathfinders (Youth Group at church), and high school. I still have the VCR I won my freshman year in high school for the fundraiser in 1986 and it still works! I hold two degrees from Kennesaw State University: Communications and Sports Management. I then pursued a Master’s in Business from St. Leo University. With over 28 years of experience in sales, marketing, and fundraising, he has served as a sports reporter, sports information director, and sales director for a sports marketing/media company. I have organized fundraising events, sports promotions, and sponsorships for organizations such as Nobis Works, Atlanta Spirit, Bowlero – formerly US Play, The Ovarian Cancer Society, Lance Corporal Skip Wells Scholarship Fund, Kennesaw State University, Marietta Adventist Church, CLStrong Foundation, Tranquility House to name a few! I also have an extensive background in sports and trivia. My passion is to help others and run events where participants have fun and bring awareness about the client to the public. I believe it is essential to build and establish relationships, teamwork, and communication to better serve others. I also have a four-pronged approach that I take now with my fundraising.
1. Helping others through fundraising;
2. Bringing the community together while having fun;
3. Educating the community;
4. Ultimately bringing glory to God.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
No, I have worked for many other companies along the way and have had three other businesses prior to this one. I can say that I learned things while working for others what not to and to be more honest than those I have worked for in the past. Also between either wrong timing or COVID, personal issues and financial struggles it definitely has not been an easy road, however, having said all that I can see God really starting to move in this business.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
So I have done everything from driving limo’s, changing oil in cars, being a 911 dispatcher, writing sports to sells, My sells career I have sold everything from Advertising in Newspapers, Local Magazines, Events, Security Systems and Direct Mail. God has given me the gift of gab and I can talk to anyone and ask for anything. So now that I am doing fundraising full time that is my specialty from asking for sponsorships to getting raffle prizes to getting retired professional athletes to come out to events. I would say that I am known as always helping others and being a great networker and connected others with others.
I am most proud of being able to help local charities raise money and awareness in the community and also being a runner in the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games. For those who do not know what a runner is I worked with the press at the Baseball Venue and made sure they had everything they needed from stats to coffee.
I think that what sets me apart is that I have a true heart for helping others, strong communication skills and most of the time I do not charge a fee depending on the kind of event, I do a split of the proceeds from doing all the work.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
Honesty and Integrity.
