Today we’d like to introduce you to Bridgette Hannigan
Hi Bridgette, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
As an ultrasound technician, I was privileged to hear the untold stories behind the images—stories of patients struggling with the limitations of the healthcare system. Time and time again, I heard the same frustrations: patients couldn’t get the tests they needed, even with insurance, because their deductibles were too high. Others were left waiting, desperate for answers, while their doctors refused to order an ultrasound. I realized that the barriers to care were preventing people from taking control of their health, and something needed to change. That’s when the idea for Atlanta Ultrasound was born.
At Atlanta Ultrasound, we’re challenging the status quo of corporate medicine. I created this practice to offer a bold alternative to the impersonal, profit-driven healthcare system that often leaves patients feeling like just another number. At Atlanta Ultrasound, we believe that everyone deserves access to high-quality imaging without the barriers of insurance or the need for a doctor’s referral.
My approach is unapologetically patient-focused and prevention-oriented. I’m passionate about empowering people to take control of their health before problems arise, offering accessible and affordable ultrasound services that prioritize your well-being over profit margins. If you’ve ever felt unheard or overlooked in the medical community, I’m here to provide the care and attention you deserve.
Beyond the office, I’m driven by a desire to break free from conventional paths, whether that’s exploring new ideas, staying active, or continuously challenging myself to grow. I’m on a mission to reshape healthcare into something that truly serves the people, with a focus on prevention, transparency, and putting patients first.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road, it’s actually been more like an obstacle course that we have had to learn to navigate.
I think that mostly it’s because we’ve chosen a different path from many of our competitors. While most providers accept insurance and benefit from higher profits, we prioritize making our services affordable to everyone in our community, even if it means foregoing those profits. We don’t require a doctor’s order, so you can get the care you need without the extra hurdles. This has been really helpful to patients who don’t feel heard in the medical community.
However, this approach presents its own challenges. It’s harder to get doctors to refer patients to us because we don’t accept insurance, and many doctors aren’t fully aware of the high costs their patients face when going to hospitals for imaging. This lack of awareness can be a barrier, preventing patients from getting the ultrasounds they need. Since no one wants to say “I couldn’t afford it”, typically the doctor will never know the real reason why the test wasn’t done.
Patients often prefer to go through insurance, not realizing that they’ll need a doctor’s order and may have to wait weeks or even months for answers. With us, you get results in 1-2 business days, offering a quicker, more straightforward path to the care you need. But sometimes, it’s hard for people to understand why they may want to consider self pay options.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
At Atlanta Ultrasound, communication is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that in today’s fast-paced world, true communication has become a lost art, but we’re committed to bringing it back. That’s why we have a human answering the phone 24/7, ready to listen and address any real questions or concerns patients may have before they even make an appointment. We make sure they know we’re truly listening and here to help.
But our commitment to communication doesn’t stop there. We follow up with our patients leading up to their appointment to ensure they feel prepared and supported. After their visit, we reach out three times within the next seven days—once to see if they have any questions, again to confirm they’ve received their results, and a final time to assist them with anything else they might need.
For us, communication isn’t just a task; it’s the cornerstone of our human-centered approach to healthcare. We’re dedicated to making sure our patients feel heard, understood, and cared for every step of the way.
