Meet Brittany Albany of Candles & Vibes Co

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Albany.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Brittany. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt a connection to something bigger than me. It was during my time at Winston-Salem State University that I first discovered the seeds for self-love through opportunities to connect to people. I started my self-care company after I did not see many women of color connecting to self-love to mental health.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggle for me was taking that first leap. I quit my job in 2016 but ended up doing some contract work. That was not in my plan but I do not know how to not work. I called this time Fancydays,’ and I had a long list of things I wanted to accomplish because they were all supposed to be about me. My goal was to quit and not have to immediately go back to work.

I focused on my skills. When I was working my 9-5, my productivity and creativity decreased. I did not like what I was doing. I was in the endless hamster wheel of being on indeed and completing applications for jobs that were paying what I am worth for my education and experience. I enrolled in different e-courses, writing and traveling to meet new people, journaled and meditated to tap into my creativity as much as possible. I’ve been worked on my physical as well as my metal, limited my eating out and tried new recipes.

Before I made the leap to quit, I took some time and a plan. First, I went through my budget, bills, savings and all my assets to make sure it made sense. I could not quit, be homeless and hungry because I wanted to be creative. I also made a list of all the things I wanted to accomplish during this time. I wanted to read more, see my family more, learn about editing, and call my friends more. Nevertheless, I used the list to keep a schedule and to stay focused. This time was not to stay in bed all day and Netflix and chill, it was to accomplish the things that I set out to do!

I gave myself a full year to build better habits for the next phase of my life. I knew this is probably going to be the only time I get to do something like this so I took advantage of the opportunity. I knew I was unfulfilled with my life and I MADE A very personal decision to step out do to something I’ve never done before because I knew I deserved a well-rounded life!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Candles & Vibes Co – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
