Meet Brittany Burton of Brittburt3

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Burton.

So, before we jump into specific questions, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
When I was 20 years old, I moved to Atlanta in the summer of 2015. I was attending Howard University and knew I wanted to pursue a career in music and journalism. As a result, I looked for an internship that would fulfill both of my heart’s desires, in a city that looked like me. That led me to moving from my hometown of Springfield, IL to ATL where I accepted an internship with DJ Drama. DJ Drama is still one of the hottest DJ’s in America and most heavily respected. Life was never the same.

My first day, I began writing for his DRAMALIKETHEDJ BLOG, which gave me the opportunity to share original content in ways like never before. To top it off, I landed a position with One Music Festival, for their summer ambassador program, in which I became a social media lead. Atlanta gave me more than just opportunities; it gave me hope. But it was not all sunshine. I struggled to find a space where I truly fitted in, forcing me to dig deeper into myself. For the first time, I was doing what I loved and risking it all in the process. But most importantly, I learned how to survive in Atlanta. I learned how to stretch a dollar for days. I learned how to grocery shop with little to hardly no money while still finding fullness in my heart and stomach. Learning how to overcome in the face of adversity is something that has gotten me to where I am today. But that was just the beginning of many blessings to later come.

My work with SZA allowed me to reach new heights as a woman and professional. She always told me that I was a boss and that I always had to move as such. Being taught by a living legend is something I know God designed himself. By 2016 I was a published writer for Huffington Post and Buzzfeed. I shared original content with an audience of over 3,000 readers weekly. My hard work was finally paying off. But I still was not feeling satisfied. With all of the knowledge I had obtained over the years I decided to start helping up and coming artists market their brands, music, and talent. This allowed me to build an extensive network of tastemakers, creatives, and influencers including my Atlanta circle from my intern days.

When 2019 rolled around, I knew that being an editor of a Magazine was at the top of my list. Respect Magazine had been my family for over a year and I knew I wanted to continue building with them. In January I was named an editor for Respect Magazine, and have been telling the best stories of my life ever since. I even had the pleasure of interviewing Spice from Love and Hip Hop Atlanta, which is my biggest interview to date.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been a smooth road ever. Coming from a small town growing up the only child, I had no one to fight for me. I had to fight all of my own battles. As a result, I struggled with making friends and fitting in with the “it crowd”. Turns out the cool kid’s aren’t so cool after all. From elementary school to high school, I was bullied because of the way I looked, the complexion of my skin and my weird and unpopular ways. It made me very insecure as an adult and troubled me in college. I spent so much time trying to be a part of the “in” circle, only to realize that a square never fits in with a circle. Not having many friends or confidants in college forced me to find happiness beyond the flesh. Being alone so much forced me to fix my relationship with God and become the best version of myself. Music and writing were the only thing that brought me absolute joy. When I bridge them together, I was able to see the depths of my greatness. I love writing so much because it has always been my coping mechanism for pain. All the anger, pain, and sorrow I have faced over the years I defeat every TIME when I put my gifts and passions to use. Many things have tried to take me out, but I arose a warrior. –what do you think?

Please tell us about Brittburt3.
I am an entertainment journalist who assists in public relation work. I specialize in sharing cutting edge culture impacted content with the world. In doing so I ensure that these stories are visible on Google via search engine optimization. I am able to change a person’s life with the stroke of a key. I understand the power of words and the value content holds. I am known for being able to help artists reach new heights in their career via press, media, and marketing tactics. I am most proud of becoming an editor of Respect Magazine; one of the hottest rising entertainment magazines. What sets me apart from others is my destiny for success. No matter how many times I have been beat down, I always get back up. No matter how many times I have wiped my tears, I pray harder for light. No matter what, I never give up on myself and those around me. I understand the value behind the ways I am supposed to spread my godly gifts to heal the world. That is what sets me apart from the others.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I had to start over, I would have been more financially stable. The many days of being broke to the point that I did not know where my next meal would come from is unbearable. Sometimes I was so eager for the opportunity that I didn’t forsee all of the possible mishaps that would arise regarding money. Something else I would have done differently is seeked a mentor. I went into the music industry blind and just figured it out as I went. I feel like things would have been a lot easier for me had I been guided more and nurtured. But being a lone wolf taught me resilience and loyalty to myself first. I thank the city of Atlanta for forcing me to make a way out of nothing.
