Meet Brittany Chambers of Well-Beings in Cumming

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Chambers.

Brittany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have been a board-certified Nurse Practitioner in the state of Georgia since 2011. Although I have been in healthcare since 2008, it was not until I had a foster daughter that I realized what a hassle it is to get into a pediatrician’s office for a simple back to school exam. I found myself frustrated by the long waits, exposure to sick patients, and the lack of focused and thorough assessments. Between my frustration with the high cost of healthcare, lack of accessibility, and the rushed nature of the exams, I decided to start this company. It is my goal to provide thorough and detailed assessment of each patient, develop relationships with my patients and their families, educate on the importance of nutrition and prevention, as well as make this experience stress free and convenient for all of those involved.

Given that there are so many people without healthcare insurance today, it is also my goal to provide affordable healthcare that does not cost more than an average co-pay. I have done this so that patients without health insurance have access to care they can afford.

In addition to desiring to make healthcare easier for families, more affordable for patients without insurance, I also enjoy performing EKG’s for athletes and those at high risk for Cardiac Events. This is something that is rarely done routinely, but it should be a priority. Being a life-long runner and athlete, I also have a focus on providing detailed sports physicals to student athletes. Unlike many other medical practices, I will provide EKG’s in home for any patient with a family history of cardiac disease, sudden cardiac death, or history of fainting or dizziness

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
So far, starting this business has been a very smooth road. There is a great deal of resources out there for self-starters these days. So as far as it relates to opening up a healthcare business, I was happy to find that there are a plethora of resources, mentors, and great books to read to make the process go smoothly.

The hardest part of getting this company up and running has been the marketing. Sure, there are Google AdWords, Yelp Business, Facebook Ads, etc. These are wonderful tools, but for a mobile Healthcare Company, the best way to spread the word is word of mouth still. I am currently a very small company so I am limited to a smaller radius right now until the company grows bigger, so getting the word out and getting the business to grow has been the most difficult part.

This is not a concern at this time, however, as my main goal is help patients receive affordable and convenient healthcare… and I am doing this each month regardless of how many patients I see. So at the end of the day or at the end of the month, if I have helped someone by making healthcare more affordable, then I am content.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Well-Beings story. Tell us more about the business.
Well-beings was developed for a few reasons: First, to make health care more affordable for those with high deductible plans or no insurance. Secondly, to make healthcare more convenient for families on the go. Lastly, to provide healthcare that models better relationships and more in-depth physical exams with an option for EKG’s.

I am most proud of this company because unlike many other healthcare companies, we are truly patient-centered. Clearly, I would love for this concept to grow and for the business to be profitable, but I am happy to know that patients are happy and taken care of because of something I was able to provide them. I also love being able to meet patients, get to know them as a family, and prevent sick children/parents from having to spend hours in the waiting room somewhere. It is a very unique thing to be performing a Sports Physical or sick visit for a child in a home and the Mom is able to be prepping dinner. Children seem to have a lot less anxiety when being treated in their own homes and parents are not having to spend more time in the car. I love it!

Services we offer: We do everything from minor blood work such as A1c, blood glucose, cholesterol screens to diagnostic testing for Mono, Strep, UTI’s, Yeast Infections. We also do Back to School Physicals, College Physicals, Life Insurance Physicals, Camp Physicals, and School/Vaccine Forms. We offer Travel Medicine to Prepare you for trips, Motion Sickness Medications, and much more!

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Well, as most of know, chance and randomness are huge components of everyday life. I would be absurd to say that I have set this business up purely out of my own devices. I am lucky to have started this business during a time when insurance is becoming less affordable, when the internet has given me great resources to learn from, and during a time when convenience is King. I have also had the wonderful opportunity to meet great mentors throughout my life who have inspired me, encouraged me, and pushed me to venture out and try new things. I met these amazing people by chance and I owe much of my success and ambition to them.
