Thanks for sharing your story with us Brittany. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Thank you for the opportunity! I moved to Atlanta, after graduating from the University of South Carolina, to pursue my career in event management. My focus is mainly on trade shows, large galas, and concert productions. I’ve had first-hand experiences working behind the scenes for some of the country’s top brands, including TNT, TBS, TVONE, NCAA, NBA, and MLS. Being detail-oriented, embracing new and creative ideas, and bringing people together for a life-changing experience is what drove me to the Event and Entertainment Industry.
When I am not directing on-site at an event, I usually spend my days offering helpful advice and documenting my journey through life on my website, brittanyciera.com. Because I love writing so much, last year, I began drafting a book about my journey into self-growth, self-reflection, and self-love. The book entitled, “The Season of Self” is now a published work, currently available on Amazon. My goal through this book and in life is to encourage each reader to dive deep into getting to know themselves and to give a glimpse into my story so far. I believe we are all moving through life, searching for the best way to tap into our authentic self and learn what it means to bloom where you’re planted. We’re all seed planters, but we just need the right soil and water.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Although I’ve been blessed to accomplish so much in such a short period of time, the journey has not been easy. After moving to the city of Atlanta post-college, I landed what I thought was my dream job. It provided some of the greatest experiences to date and expanded my knowledge of the event industry. After about a year of contracting with them, I unfortunately was not able to continue due to larger company purposes. As a driven young woman, ready to dig my claws into my new industry, this was a major blow to my self-esteem. I was out of a job, income, and hope for a short period of time. No one prepares you for the after college experience to adjusting to life. This season of uncertainty was one of the catalysts that began my writing journey.
I found hope in focusing my energy on what I could control, which was my ability to network, build my brand, and freelance, which led to many other opportunities. Everything else was left in God’s hands. During this time, I was forced to spend more time focusing on myself and growth in all areas. Thus birthed “The Season of Self.”

At this time, in addition to my full-time position as an Event Manager, I freelance a variety of Event Services. This includes Full-Service Planning, Day of Coordination Assistance, and Consultations. My introduction and love to the hospitality industry came from the devotion and cared that I watched my great-grandmother show in our community as a young child. She instilled in me the values of hard work, determination, and respect for every man and his ideas, no matter their background. It is my goal to bring this warm and loving touch to each of my clients for their special moments. My specialty is in large conferences and Event Production. However, I also enjoy hosting intimate, personal gatherings. A portfolio of a few of my events can be found on my website.
I am also an upcoming Author and have just released my first book entitled, The Season of Self. As I mentioned before, this is a personal growth book for people who are ready to dive deep into learning about how to get to their next level in life. There is a process of self-discovery that we all must go through in order to find our purpose. This book is a tool that can be used to navigate each reader towards internal reflection to produce an outward change. The book includes short quirky stories, easy to read daily devotionals, fulfilling affirmations, and tough love advice to inspire each reader to grow, glow, and go. It’s a work that’s really close to my heart, and I hope inspires someone along their journey.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
To me, success is defined by the positive change you are able to make in a person’s life. One of my favorite quotes by the late Dr. Maya Angelou says, “I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” I think about this each time I encounter a potential client, my friends, family members, or even a random person on the street. Actions speak louder than words ever could, so I make sure that I consistently set the intentions on all I do to become a better steward for people. I could win 100 awards, and that would give the appearance of success, but if I’m not able to look at myself in the mirror and be pleased with who is looking back at me, what have I really gained? If I am able to make a positive impact on one person’s life, be it with a smile, a hug, a funny story from my book, or a kind word, that means in some way, I have succeeded. Success happens daily, not just when it is acknowledged.
