Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Mitchell.
Brittany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve been doing hair since the age of 13 years old. To be honest, being a hairstylist was never my passion. I started doing hair because I was good at it and I needed money. My mom was a hairstylist so I’ve been around the industry all of my life, it was destined. As much as I tried to go against it, it was the one thing that I stayed consistent in. I spent several years at Albany State University to obtain a psychology degree, just going with the motions. In 2012, I decided to stop fighting the urge and became a Master Cosmetologist. After receiving my credentials, I was employed at retail salons and private-owned salons to gain experience. I still wasn’t satisfied so I did what any great entrepreneur would or should do…I left. While looking for my next best move, I serviced my clients at home because I had to do what I had to do. During that time I started a beauty, fashion and business show called The Venom and Grace Show. After two years of successful shows, COVID 19 happened. At this point, I can’t service my clients nor can I create other shows. I was determined not to let that stop me or slow me down. In the midst of the pandemic, I searched for salon locations until I found the perfect place. In July 2022, Style N Grace Salon here in Valdosta Ga will be 2 years old. This is one of my greatest accomplishments. I am constantly growing and learning to be the best hairstylist and salon owner that I can be.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been an easy path at all; however, it was the struggles that pushed me to go hard. Some of my biggest struggles were not knowing if I would be able to maintain a salon on my own. It’s hard having to be everything for your business. Overcoming what seems to be tough is the most rewarding part about it.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in Natural hair and hair color. I’m known for my silk press and hair coloring services. If I could color hair all day, I definitely would. I’m most proud of my consistent growth. Every year I look back on where I was and how my skills and clientele have exceeded. I think being professional and knowledgeable in my craft but also staying true to myself as an individual is what sets me apart from others.
Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I don’t know if I would call it luck. Let’s use the word blessed because I can’t even tell you how I got to the point of doing this interview let alone the position in my career. So yea, blessings have played the biggest part in my life and business. Bad luck not so much. It will always be up for me, any bumps in the road are just learned lessons.
Negativity has no place in my business.
