Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Settambrino.
Hi Brittany, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
After the birth of my first child, I decided that I just could not go back to my career that I was truly passionate about- managing a local jewelry chain. I had 13 years of experience in gemology- diamond grading, gemstone identification and sales, and had worked my way up to management at Shane Co. I truly loved my job and the company I was working for, I just couldn’t justify the nights and weekends away from my daughter. After my maternity leave, I submitted my notice and began working as an assistant for a local Public Adjuster. I say this with the most sincerity- I learned so much from her, but mostly what NOT to do. After a few months of working for her, I decided to leave and start PA’ing my own claims. I began reaching out to local contractors to see if they needed help handling their more difficult insurance claims. I started working with a few contractors who sent me more work than I could handle. I then hired my brother, who is now the Director of Field Operations, to help me manage the claims. I still remember sitting with him at my kitchen table, super excited about getting 1 claim approved per week. The word started getting around that we were going things ‘different and better’ than other Public Adjusters, and we have now ballooned into a 15 person firm assisting over 80 current and active contractors and their homeowners.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Nothing about it has been smooth, lol. Entrepreneurial stress is a real thing. Staying up late and getting up super early. Waking up in the middle of the night with your mind racing and not being able to go back to sleep. Working weekends. Starting a company with a 6-month-old baby. Being responsible for 15 people’s salaries. Had a hater falsify documents and submit them to the DOI (obviously, nothing came of it because I proved it wrong). Rude and ungrateful contractors, treating me and my primarily female staff as inferiors in the industry. Feeling like I might have a stroke about once a month. Employee headaches.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Precision was built on capitalizing on the weaknesses of my competitors. I frequently ‘secret shop’ them and each time I snag one of their clients, I ask what their experience was like with the competition. Spoiler alert- they almost always say the same things. Other PA’s are too slow, they don’t communicate with my homeowners, they don’t give me updates and they suck at supplementing. As I started noticing how frequent I was getting the same complaints, what I call the 4 Pillars of Precision was born. These are my companies core focus.
1) We handle our insurance claims as fast as possible for the benefit of our contractors and homeowners.
2) We communicate with our rolling 280 homeowners at a minimum of once per week.
3) We provide our contractors with 24/7 access to our CRM with ALL of our claim updates, so they are never left in the dark.
4) We employ the baddest supplementers to maximize the claim to the fullest extent of the policy.
We operate with these four things in the forefront of our mind on a daily basis. This is what has made us so successful in the three years we have been in business.
We handle all types of property insurance claims. Weather claims (wind and hail), fire, water, mold, asbestos, tree damage, and even crime scene cleanup.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
I have always had an entrepreneurial spirit. From selling ribbons as belts in my cul-de-sac at four years old to hosting mother’s morning out camps in my parent’s basement at 15, to selling my handmade jewelry at 20. I have always had a passion for starting businesses and making my own money!
