Meet Brittany Zis of Mother and Baby Wellness Collective in North Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Zis.

Brittany, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
As a physical therapist, I would go to work and pour my heart and soul into treating the birth to 21 population and then spend my free time exploring many avenues of wellness for women. I started wondering how I could combine the two to allow me to pursue both of my passions in my physical therapy career. When I was pregnant with my son, I had my “AHA!” moment… I was going to treat pregnant and postpartum women AND children. I became very aware of the lack of resources for pregnant and postpartum women and I decided I wanted to change that. And in my work as a physical therapist, I have had many parents tell me they were not given enough resources to help them support their child’s development, which led to delays and the need for physical therapy intervention. I realized that my true calling as a physical therapist is to help expecting mamas prepare their bodies for birth and recover after giving birth as well as to help parents navigate their little one’s first year and beyond. I had envisioned starting my own business for several years, but when I became a mom myself, my desire to do so became urgent. I am grateful to get to do what I love and create a schedule that allows me to spend more time with my son too!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has had its curves and even a few bumps, but in truth, they have lead to growth and development! I first started Mother and Baby Wellness Collective (MBWC) while I was a new mom working also for a healthcare system. I quickly realized that I was feeling pulled in many different directions as a mom, in my work, and in my own business. I knew something had to change. I decided to take a leap of faith and devote more of my time to my business, and as a result, the momentum began. The pandemic brought a new wave of challenges, but also new and unexpected opportunities! I am happy to say that MBWC is growing and I am thankful for the love and support from the Atlanta mamas! They have embraced my mission and joined me on my journey to improving the care provided to mamas and babies! Without them, MBWC wouldn’t be what it is today.

Please tell us about Mother and Baby Wellness Collective.
Mother and Baby Wellness Collective exists to empower mamas and help babies to thrive as they learn to explore their world! As a physical therapist, I saw a need not only for physical therapy treatment but also for a preventative approach to pediatric care and women’s health. I provide physical therapy services to babies, toddlers, prenatal, and postnatal women in need. I also offer wellness services to help parents learn how to promote their baby’s gross motor development right from the start! In addition, wellness services for women looking for guidance in staying active during pregnancy, preventing pain and injury, birth prep, body mechanics and positioning, and return to exercise postpartum. As a mom, I understand how hard it can be for mamas to get out to appointments, which is why I see my clients in their home or virtually! Mother and Baby Wellness Collective is unique in that it allows me to be one point of contact for moms on their journey to motherhood as well as in navigating postpartum care and infant development! I am thrilled to be helping moms feel empowered and helping babies become confident movers!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I have so many people to thank for their part in my journey! I am grateful to have worked alongside many talented physical therapists over the years who have pushed me to grow! I am also very lucky to have a supportive family and friends who listened to me talk about my vision for so long and encouraged me to make it a reality! My husband, who supports my ideas and aspirations no matter how big or small and who believed in this business long before it became a reality. Our son, who is a constant reminder of my why. My clients, who let me be a part of their story and who inspire me to never stop learning. Mother and Baby Wellness Collective continues to grow thanks to the community of moms here in Atlanta who believe in it, and for that, I am incredibly grateful!
