Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittnay Sears.
Hi Brittnay, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
My husband and I met when we worked in the same coffee shop many years ago in Montana, so we’ve always had that in the back of our minds. I’ve always wanted a bookstore, and it made sense to have those two elements together. We found a location that is near several neighborhoods, which was important because we wanted a community feels in the store. Once we found the spot and decided to move forward, it all came together really quickly, and it has been a wonderful whirlwind ever since!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It took a bit of trial and error to get the merchandise right, but we feel like we did a pretty good job of identifying potential obstacles. We have been mostly fortunate in finding great staff members to work in the store, and that has been a great help. It takes a lot of time to keep up with orders and events, but that is part of what keeps it interesting. The hardest thing is probably just relaxing and not panicking when the store is slow, but that comes with time as well.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
The Inside Story Bookstore and Cafe has become a community hangout for the Hoschton/Jefferson area. Our customers feel very welcome when they come into the shop, and we have several tables and couches where they spend time enjoying a latte and reading a book, or working on their computers, or just playing games or chatting with friends. We have developed a very loyal base of customers, both on the coffee side and the book side. Our Story Time on Wednesday mornings is a hit with parents and kids. If you are in the market for your next great read, or a delicious crafted coffee drink, or if you just want to come by and enjoy the ambiance of the store, please stop by and see us!
How do you think about happiness?
The people in my life. I have surrounded myself with friends and family that help me shine and build me up so that I am able to be the woman that I am.
