Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittney Jones.
Hi Brittney, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
As a child, I expressed my interest in fashion pretty early on. My mother noticed my interest in anything related fashion so she enrolled me into a modeling camp at eight years old and from there, my interest became my passion. Fast fwd to my early 20’s I was introduced to thrifting. Everything I learned about thrifting I put a little spin on it and that became the birth of Leora’s Closet. I started teaching people how to thrift as well as personal shopping and styling. I had the idea to open up a consignment store/boutique but I didn’t want to stay in Indiana.
I visited GA in 2012 and fell in love with how freely everyone was able to express themselves fashionably. I moved to GA in Oct 2015 and released a T-Shirt line #cuteandcovered in 2016. The guy that I partnered up with to assist with my T-shirt line had a different vision for the direction my business should go and that required me to go back to the drawing board and create a new plan and vision for Leora’s Closet. Four years later Leora’s Closet went life online on July 1st, 2020. Opening up a physical location is still the main goal for me but for now, I’m just trusting the process.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
A smooth road? Not even close. I wanted to start working on my business as soon as I got to GA in 2015 but nothing was working out as planned. Mentally and financially, I took on more than I could handle, all while adjusting to a new state, environment, etc.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a boutique owner, you have to have an eye for fashion. Style is something you either have or you don’t and the fact that so many people over the years have trusted me and/or came to me to give them the confidence they’re looking for, help them feel better about themselves makes me so proud. I specialized in finding pieces that cater to someone’s individual style. What sets me apart? Leora’s Closet’s goal is to continue to find an abundance of fashionable merchandise that caters to almost everyone’s style – I’m known for my eclectic style… you never know what you may see or what I may do next.
Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
Since I’ve been in GA, I’ve become more of a shy person, whereas back at home, where I’m from, it’s the complete opposite.
