Meet Brooke Yannucci of Brooke Whitney Photography in Brookhaven

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brooke Yannucci.

Brooke, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My love for photography started in high school when I took my first photography class. I absolutely loved the art of capturing an image, then the process of developing that image in to print. My first love was a black and white film for sure and funny enough, 15 years later it’s still my favorite. After high school, I went on to college and studied Business Management but was able to sneak a few photography classes into my course schedule. Once I graduated I moved to Chapel Hill, NC where my husband went to grad school. While down there, I took a few more photography classes and pursued wedding photography. After my husband graduated we moved to Atlanta and had our first baby, Emerson. Once I had her I realized that newborn and family photography is what really had my heart. Capturing growing bellies, babies and families have been my greatest professional joy.
I’ve turned my love of film, photography and babies into my job and I thank my lucky stars every day that I’m able to do this. Still my favorite medium of photography, film, I incorporate into all of my sessions. I love that grainy black and white image that captured my eye in high school, I love how soft and creamy color images are on film. My goal has always been and still is, to capture a moment in the most beautiful way I can and to me, a film is how I do that. Though I do still love my digital camera for those fast little toddlers and low light situations, so I consider myself a hybrid shooter, using the best of both worlds.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The hardest part of photography is getting your name out there when you first start. This is an industry full of amazingly talented artists. It’s hard to set yourself apart and get people to find you. I’ve been lucky enough to have loyal and kind clients who have helped spread my name. In fact, almost 5 years after starting, almost all of my business is gained by word-of-mouth referrals.

The other thing that I would find challenging is balancing work and family. I think any working mom (& dad!) could tell you that. It’s especially difficult when part of that work is done at home. I’m constantly striving to find a balance, but with a thriving business and three kids, I think that I will always be trying to figure out what that is!

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Brooke Whitney Photography – what should we know?
I am maternity, newborn and family photographer. I shoot both film and digital in all of my sessions. I am so proud of how far I’ve come from where I started my business.

I also have three kids. So I GET IT. Kids are wild. Sometimes they don’t listen, sometimes they want nothing to do with the session. Sometimes they are just being kids. There is not a behavior I haven’t seen before. Seriously, I’ve been there! I try to tell all my clients that and make the process of our session as stress-free as possible!

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
As I mentioned previously, my clients are some of the greatest bunch of humans I’ve ever met. Also most every inquiry I get is a word-of-mouth referral. I 100% credit my amazing clients for my growth.
