Today we’d like to introduce you to Buck Coffey.
Buck, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I started installing hardwood floors for family and friends in the early 80’s and that quickly evolved to building decks and fences for homeowners and new home builders as a private contractor. During this period, I was working in the “corporate world” during the week and traditionally completing different projects over the weekends. When I had larger projects, I would utilize vacation time and holidays to complete the projects in a timely manner. Over the past several years, demand for higher end decks, utilizing exotic woods like Ipe and Tiger Wood, has increased, so I left the corporate world and established Coffey Home Improvements to do building projects full time.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s tough to get established in this business because there are so many good carpenters out there producing a quality project. My goal is to provide the absolute best quality at a reasonable cost to the consumer. Maintaining this level of work has led to many recommendations from past customers to their friends/family and has fortunately kept us busy with work.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Coffey Home Improvements – what should we know?
Coffey Home Improvements primarily designs and builds custom decks and arbors for homeowners around Atlanta. We utilize a variety of materials from pressure treated lumber to exotic hardwoods like Ipe and Tiger Wood. We also design and install wood fences, gates/entryways and prefinished hardwood flooring. Our key difference is we only work one job at a time and insure it is done to the homeowners’ full expectations prior to starting our next project. We do not simply send out “crews” to different locations to complete jobs.
Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Quality Craftsmanship is our key focus. We only work one job at a time and insure the finest quality materials are utilized in every aspect of the project. Our goal is to insure the homeowner is 100% satisfied before we move on to the next project.
