Meet Buckhead Entrepreneur: Calvaniece Mason

Today we’d like to introduce you to Calvaniece Mason.

Calvaniece, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?

I started my career styling hair in my mother’s salon when I was in high school. On the weekends many of classmates from school would come into the salon and I would style their hair on weekends, as well as assist my mother with her clients. After graduating high school, I worked a few jobs that I never could find a true passion or love for so I decided to go to school for my cosmetology license. Once I graduated I relocated from my hometown of Athens, Georgia to Atlanta.

I went on to further develop my skills under the training of the Award Winning Francesco Group in Europe. This helped to catapult me into a Professional Educator for Aveda & International Hairdresser of choice for many of today’s high-profile Models, Upcoming Actors, and Entertainers. I have repeatedly been requested for my expertise in beauty, working with many of the leading fashion and beauty professionals. Working backstage at Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week, Paris Fashion Week, Vogue’s CFDA Awards and The Golden Globe Awards Art of Elysium.

After discovering the amount of work-related injuries reported by hairdressers, I set on a quest to eliminate this issue by founding a brand of ergonomically designed professional hair styling tools. The very first tool in my brand is the Elite Pro Turbo | Lite Professional Hairdryer. The Elite Pro Turbo | Lite Professional Blow Dryer delivers powerful airflow, is quiet and featherweight. With its built-in ceramic technology this high-performance dryer allows for the creation of brilliant shine, reduces static and frizz, and creates smooth, sleek finishes. Specially designed with a curved comfort grip handle that places your hand in an ergonomically correct position for all day use and reduced muscle strain.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road has not been easy, I have had to learn many lessons along the way but the greatest lessons that I have learned is the power of believing in yourself, being persistent in your efforts and consistent in your actions. When it comes to running your own business and you’re a one-woman army you have to play many roles and wear many hats but this is how you grow. I have learned that as soon as you can leverage your network do it! which means leverage people to assist you with the things that you are not so good at. For instance if blogging is not a major niche for you get an intern to assist you in this area.

Do you feel luck has played a role in your life?
I wouldn’t say that luck has played any type of role in my life and career. I feel as though all of my success has come from the work I have put in and the determination that I have to become successful. I am a true believer in the law of cause and effect I feel that what you put out will eventually come back to you. I also feel as though you have to be very clear on what it is that you truly desire and align your actions towards obtaining it. Then you will be presented with various opportunities to grow a network of people that can assist you with your career.

Do you feel like there are certain traits that increase the likelihood of success?
I would say my mindset & work ethic! I say this because I never try to look at the glass half empty, I always try to find one positive in whatever it is that I am doing even before owning my own business.  At times I have had moments of course that I didn’t like too much but the positive was what I was gaining from those moments. I gained a ton of continuing education, as well as opportunities to further my career working with various designer’s backstage at many leading Fashion Shows. We know that knowledge is priceless, once you know what you know that can never be taken away. So I had to look at the positive to it and the fact that I was making a difference in other people’s lives by sharing my knowledge and skills with them. I was able to inspire my students and help fuel their passion for the beauty industry as well.

What do you love about our city and what do you dislike?
What I like the most about Atlanta is the diversity, Atlanta so multicultural and very much a hot spot for millennials. I feel like it’s always something going on from the networking under 30 events, business seminars, empowerment seminars, great restaurants and food, and the rise of so many young entrepreneurs. What I like least about Atlanta is the traffic!!! If we could just do something about the traffic I would love it even more but hey most cities experience gridlock traffic like us as well.
