Meet Budda Bless of 1997 Records in Stockbridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Budda Bless.

“Budda Bless” is a ‘well-seasoned’, young Recording Artist/Producer, that has been in the music game since he was 12 years old. His interest in music started at three years old, playing drums. Since then, he has been an accomplished percussionist in his schools’ jazz and marching bands as a student.

“Budda Bless” wrote his first three songs at the age of 12 years old, at which time his “Momager”, a former recording studio vocalist, taught him “studio etiquette”, terminology and how to be prepared and performance ready. In late 2010, he made his mark in the Atlanta club scene, honing his stage presence and networking with various artists, producers and deejays in the industry.

Unplanned & unexpectedly, he met a now well-known music producer, who took him under his wing, actually gave him some instrumental music tracks and told him, ” see what you can do with these”. He also showed him some basics on music production at his home studio.” Budda Bless”, “The Prince of The Ring” was born.

His hard work and determination finally paid off. In May 2011, at the age of 13, “Budda Bless” was awarded HOTBlock Magazine’s Hot New Young Artist Award at the 2011 Hip Hop Awards in Atlanta, Georgia. The instrumental tracks the producer gave him were HOT! He continued to perform after that but also spent quite a bit of time in the new home studio he built for himself. He enjoyed performing, but he was also intrigued by the actual creation and production of the music itself. The tutelage from the producer ignited another passion of his……BEATS. His interest increased as he had to multitask as Artist, Producer and Engineer, all in one session.

In the past five years since, “Budda Bless” has taught himself how to effectively utilize programs such as FL Studio, Reason, Logic and Pro Tools. He is currently enrolled at FULL SAIL UNIVERSITY, pursuing his Bachelor’s Degree in their Recording Arts Program. He recognized that in order to take his career to the next level, he needed some formal guidance, training and experience to expand his already vast technical knowledge.

In June 2015, “Budda Bless” recorded what he describes as his last album as an “Artist”. Even though he has the lyrical and vocal skills to contend with the current artists in the industry, he acknowledges he can’t effectively do it all. So he has chosen instead to extend his musical production gifts and talents to the world.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it was really challenging at first, I was kid jumping out doing what 22 & 23 years old were doing. Folks used to laugh but you know the clown is usually the one laughing lol. In college I really lost myself going thru a lot of relationship problems, I was homeless for second, I lost Homies and family, and also with my mom moving out the country that had me depressed heavy too. I can’t see her how I want. It’s always thru a screen. But for the most part now that I have grown up learned a little I know my worth and understand how to move accordingly to everything.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
Well, to set the record straight I rap and produce, also I got a lil something going on engineer wise too but that’s not my go to. I’m most proud about 1997 is that it came from nothing I came from nothing and to get back good results from people I have never met in my life is crazy. Music is one of those make you or break you professions, you either gone go all the way or stay stuck. And for me what sets me apart from others is that I’m one of those people who gotta be heard or you gotta see me, I have to make you feel me, I purposely want people to eat up what I’m putting out. I learned how to bait an audience, whether it’s music or products or anything I can get them involved. I always was a leader and wanted to be head in charge so I applied it here to music and my label.

What were you like growing up?
Like my bio says since 3 I been into music, I wasn’t a bad kid I personally knew too much at a young age. In school, I would do talent shows and stuff like that. I really was hanging and doing what the older guys in the apartments were doing. I always liked money so that was my go to thing as a kid even if it was only 50-100 dollars something had to be in my pockets. My interest growing up was basketball and music, I really didn’t get into anything other than that.
