Meet Caleb Hiers of Blacshiep Photography in Sandy Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caleb Hiers.

Caleb, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Since the day I was big enough to hold storybooks upside down to “read” them, I’ve found joy in creating art. That joy was expanded when my classmates would praise my work. It wasn’t long until I was drawing celebrities and movie characters as small commissions. The human form captures me in a way that has me coming back to explore, to re-evaluate, and rediscover its beauty.

I began painting narrative works with multiple figures expressing a story through gesture. To achieve realism, I would have models pose like my sketches, photograph them, and finally use the photos as reference. The birthplace of my photography was the preliminary seeds of a painting.

Eventually, I became intrigued by the challenges of taking beautiful photographs that could stand on their own. My girlfriend is gorgeous so I made her my muse and started shooting as much as I could. It was fun being able to create and explore the medium with someone I had such a close bond with.

From love and creativity, I am now a published photographer in the city of Atlanta. I work with local boutiques and their clothing lines, models’ visual branding, and have even been flown to Bali for a travel vlog.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, I focused all my energy on honing my craft. I shot a lot of free gigs and spent countless hours at a job I wasn’t charging for. It certainly was a challenge transitioning into charging for all my work. The ongoing task at hand is establishing value in my craft, constantly reselling others on the idea of my services, and of course maintaining good word of mouth. I strive to deliver an excellent experience with all my clients.

Blacshiep Photography – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I help others realize true beauty by providing quality photography and creative direction to all my clients.

I shoot primarily swimwear and beauty, and I love to jump at anything with a creative aesthetic whenever possible.

I am most proud of a recent thematic shoot I was creative director for. With a large team, multiple locations, and several wardrobe/hair/MUA changes, I am proud to say we hit every mark and wrapped precisely on time. The photos couldn’t look better!

What sets me apart is speed with quality. As the internet continues to expand, speed is king. I take pride in my fast turnaround times, and my clients do too. With my art background, you can be sure you’re getting quality images that convey stories best fit for your needs, as well as, great artistic composition and color harmony.

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I was a creative director and photographer on a project that spanned three locations and six wardrobe changes all in one day. I worked closely with the stylist and client weeks ahead of schedule to ensure we nailed the vision. On the day of the shoot, I provided the itinerary detailing every step of our 14 hour workday. I am proud to say that we wrapped precisely at 9:00 pm as my itinerary suggested.
