Meet Camryn McGregor of CandidCamryn in Carrollton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Camryn McGregor.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Camryn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I got started after being introduced to an organization called Models and Business. I originally had ZERO confidence, like I did not like myself at all. But after spending time and learning more about modeling and loving myself, I decided to branch out and learn more about myself and who I am. I realized that with all my talents, I, myself, am literally a brand. And all brands need a name. So, that’s where CandidCamryn was born. I’ve gotten so many chances to network and learn from different professionals in Atlanta to where I can now say that I am a runway model, print model, a blogger, an event & red carpet host, and a photographer. And I plan to continue to sharpen my crafts and take Atlanta by storm.

Has it been a smooth road?
I’ve definitely had some setbacks. I’ve dealt with mental health issues and just not taking care of myself. I lost my grandmother in December 2018, the day before my final exams to be exact. That put me in an unfamiliar place for a few months. I didn’t really know how to deal with death or my emotions at the time. To add on to the stress, my mom got TWO brain surgeries at the beginning of the year. I kinda fell off from everything at the time —I stopped blogging and modeling and I gained weight and I just wasn’t myself for a while. It took a while for me to truly take care of myself and figure myself out to get back on track. I still haven’t fully recovered from my hiatus. I’ve been doing more photo shoots and I’m trying to get back into modeling and blogging, but it’s a process.

We’d love to hear more about your work.
With CandidCamryn, I am a host, blogger, photographer, radio personality, and a plus-sized model. I consider myself a jack of all trades. Right now, I am most known for my photography. I decided to name my photography business TheCandidCaptures. I am most proud of how I’ve evolved as a photographer. I’m essentially a self-taught photographer. I’ve shadowed a few photographers and I’ve had the chance to capture different events; but through trial and error, I’ve taught myself more than I ever thought I would. What sets me apart from others is that I’m always willing to learn. I’m always ready to shadow someone or follow along at an event to learn a new trick or idea. I’m always ready to soak up knowledge.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I would definitely recommend someone to start in a slightly smaller town and then work their way up to Atlanta. You need time to really connect and network and it’s better to just work your way up the ladder. Atlanta is just super big, there’s not much you can do to change that. 🤷🏾‍♀️ You just have to get used to the fast pace instead of just jumping straight in.
