Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Medina.
Hi Carla, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a love for food, cooking, and baking. I got that from my mother. I started baking as a suggestion from my daughter. She encountered a baking video online and wanted to try baking a cool cake together. Soon after, however, I lost custody of her and baking became my therapy. It really took off from there. I started experimenting with recipes and learning as much as I could. I was making cakes for friends and they started recommending me to other people they know. Today I have a steady clientele of people that found me through word of mouth in addition to the customers that return to me for most of their occasions.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely been a challenging but rewarding journey. I have managed to succeed while being a full-time stay at home mom and chronic illness survivor all through my own hard work and love for what I do. I started at a time that was extremely emotionally devastating, but to see where I am today makes me proud.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I create custom made cakes and baked goods. Everything is made fresh and from scratch for every single order, including fruit fillings, frosting, and decorations. I specialize in themed, character, as well as elegant and decorative cakes. I also cater to most dietary needs. My customers are always happy and I love to hear how much they enjoyed to eat what I created for them.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my friends. Friends who have been by my side through it all, who made sure I had food to eat when I lost everything. The people brave enough to try my work, pay for my work, and recommend me to their own inner circle. Brent; my best friend and husband, who puts up with my constant kitchen explosions and makes sure the kids don’t eat the cakes. Lastly, my boyfriend Travis, for all his love and encouragement. I am thankful to them all.
