Today we’d like to introduce you to Carline Joseph.
Carline, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My fashion story really began while I was in high school, and started learning more about my individuality and style. My mother loved the thrift store because she could find great deals and not always have to worry about crowded malls. She always took me and my sisters because she knew we loved it, but I sometimes think she used the thrift store as a way to bond with us as well, which I cannot blame her for.
We would pile up our shopping baskets and arrange to meet at the fitting rooms to show each other what we found. We would strut and scream over the doors like, “Are you ready?” It was a great time to bond, even though we knew we weren’t leaving with everything.
Shopping at the thrift store allowed me to try the unordinary and that carried all the way to college. I put outfits together that were comfortable to me but also made statements. I loved the idea of people asking me where I got my piece and I could easily say the thrift store or whatever website it was. I gave people details, like where the store was, how much it cost, what else you could possibly pair it with, the feeling was great. People trusted me, friends and family wanted me to style them and create looks, even better they wanted me to go shopping with them!
My love for styling became my go-to reason for wanting to help my peers revamp their closets or take a quick trip to the mall. Fashionable items worn the way you desire lets you be you, and you can be any person you decide to be when you wear the right pieces. From learning the great tips and tricks from mentors and other stylists, its all second nature now. Carli J. Styles is the full experience of my years of styling and a visual replica of my creations. I am happy to share with the world and I cannot wait for the collaborations and projects that I plan to work on.
Has it been a smooth road?
If anyone has had a smooth road, please teach me your ways! Hahaha, just kidding.
The road has not been smooth at all but everything I am today has been because of those bumps in my journey. The biggest yet has been hearing the word “No” as if it were my last name. Now I laugh and move on, but before I could definitely curl up in a ball and just cry to sleep. I overcame this by writing down all my goals and when one door was shut, I would move to the next. It taught me to move on from any setbacks and create a new path.
My struggles typically give me a reason to look back on anything that I may have done wrong, and gets me so amped for what I have to create next. I have changed the definition of struggle or failure in my situations and align myself with the values and faith that keep me pushing.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Carli J. Styles – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Carli J. Styles is my personal brand and a branch of my image consulting services. I aspire to create a visual replica of a brands persona and use fashions that speak to myself or my client’s personality.
What sets me part is that I take the time to understand you first, then we can work on what you want to wear. We have conversation and dialogue that lets you get a little relaxed and open up about what you really want to portray. Working with me is like working with your best friend and I have the best therapy sessions… shopping.
I am most proud of my ability to effectively communicate my brand and what I do. It’s my child and who I want to be recognized as, building a brand takes time and effort. I will never forget the late night calls on the phone with a customer service representative trying to figure out why my website is not configuring, or the number of times I changed that font for my logo. It was all worth it and to think that I still had doubts, it has made me who I am today.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
The best thing about Atlanta is the opportunity that is in the crevasses of this city. You can find a job, client or organization to work with, but the keyword is you have to find it. It opens doors you didn’t even know you were looking for,
The least thing about our city, is the lack of consistency within our public transportation system. Of course, there is plenty of rideshares, but for a girl with no car and on a budget the MARTA is my best option for now.
I am definitely learning to plan way-way… way ahead of schedule, when I am getting ready to head out so my love for MARTA is a work in progress.
