Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlon Ramong.
Carlon, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Started attending Georgia State University in 2009 where I met all of my partners throughout my years there. I then dropped out in 2012 to form my company alongside one of my partners, Justice Baiden. At the time, we were managing an Atlanta artist by the name of Ari Jo. From there, our company expanded as we brought on my full team of partners as it stands today including Junia Abaidoo, Tunde Balogun and Sean Famoso McNichol when we all started working together on the Atlanta artist, Raury. Raury was our first artist to gain nationwide recognition after we put out his first music video “God’s Whisper” which happened to be the first video I wrote and co-directed myself.
As managers, Raury was the first artist we got signed to Columbia and then the following year we signed DRAM to our management company and put out the songs “Cha Cha” and then the 7x platinum “Broccoli”. After signing DRAM to Atlantic when it came time to release our next artist 6LACK instead of signing another artist deal, we were offered a label partnership with Interscope. We had become widely known as great managers so Interscope wanted to partner with us as an official record label. The first artist we released under our record label was another Atlanta artist by the name of 6LACK who went on to release the platinum album FREE 6LACK, with multiplatinum singles such as PRBLMS, Ex Calling, etc. Our next label signee was Summer Walker who went on to release the multiplatinum single Girls Need Love who was later remixed by Drake. As of now, our current label and management roster includes: 6LACK, Boogie, DRAM, Santi and Summer Walker.
Has it been a smooth road?
Our first major obstacle as a company was really just letting go of our individual egos. When you’re coming together with a group of people, it’s very hard to put aside your differences for the greater good but we all recognized that we were here to build something special together so that was the first thing we decided to overcome. When the five of my partners all came together, the first thing we decided to do was each give up our the most important vice we had at that time in our life. For me, it was sneakers. As a sneakerhead, I had about 97 pairs of sneakers at the time. It took up a lot of my energy researching, buying and trading sneakers and I knew it was something I had to give up in order to focus on the company. I ended up selling almost all the pairs that I owned and used the money to help support our business whether for studio time, music videos, photoshoots, etc.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with LVRN Records – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
LVRN stands for Love Renaissance, and we are an Atlanta based record label and artist management company. We also do creative marketing, branding, and events for other businesses under the name Kids Against Cubicles. I serve as Co-Founder and Creative Director and manage all aspects of the creative when it comes to each artist. Everything from videos, styling, photoshoots, artwork, branding and everything in between. I am most proud that as an Atlanta based company, we’re able to give back to our city and provide opportunities we didn’t have growing up. We’ve opened a studio/office in West Midtown where we provide affordable studio time and creative space open to the public to utilize at any time.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Atlanta is the home of pop culture as we know it today. Everything from music to fashion to the growing movie industry finds its hub here. The only thing to dislike is the midday traffic on 75/85 because I live downtown.
