Meet Carlos Rico of Atlanta

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlos Rico

Carlos, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I grew up in a household with a diverse musical palette, thanks to my parents. From early EDM to hip hop and metal, I was surrounded by a rich variety of sounds, which sparked my curiosity about how music is made. I started deconstructing the tracks they played, tuning into the melodies and beats, and it helped shape my creativity.

As I got older, I picked up guitar, drums, and piano by watching concert recordings and YouTube tutorials. This exploration led me to discover music production, where I realized I had a knack for mixing. I found my passion in EDM—it’s like a cultural mash-up that reflects contemporary tastes, and it felt like the perfect fit for my style.

Today, I’m proud to be a DJ and producer, blending all these influences into my music. It’s been an incredible journey, and I’m excited to see where it takes me next!

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Breaking into the music scene as a newcomer can be really tough. Even though I felt confident in my music creation and live mixing, I still had to convince promoters and venue owners to give me a shot. The competition is fierce, and keeping up with social media adds another layer of pressure that can make any artist feel overwhelmed. As someone who’s a bit introverted, it was a challenge, but my passion for performing pushed me to step out of my comfort zone and show my true self to get the gigs I dreamed of!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m primarily a musical artist and DJ, and what sets me apart is that I’m completely self-taught. I arrange my own tracks, produce my own sound, and mix my music.

I specialize in experimental bass music, blending unique melodies with explosive bass lines. I’m most proud of my growth in the scene as a newcomer—the friends I’ve made, the experiences I’ve had, and the connections I’ve built have all shaped me into a better artist.

I’m often recognized for my remixes of popular songs on SoundCloud, which reflects my passion for creating music that resonates with the EDM audience.

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
Absolutely! I learned a lot during the Covid-19 crisis. It showed me just how dedicated the EDM scene is to preserving our culture—it’s more than just raves and clubbing; it’s an influential identity that thrives beyond the venue.

I also witnessed the challenges many artists faced in keeping their art alive without live bookings or tours. It was inspiring to see how fans stepped up to support their favorite artists, creating a new ecosystem of creativity that helped keep the scene afloat.
