Meet Carlton Alexander of The Gentlemens Cut

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carlton Alexander.

Carlton, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I started cutting hair at 12 years old after being bullied at school for having a messed up haircut performed by my father. While my father was at work, I would go in his closet and get his clippers out and practice on my own hair. After a while, I would cut my brother’s hair and neighborhood kids, etc… fast forward to 2014, I decided to go to Barber school to get my license. I didn’t have much money at the time and I was in desperate need of some student loan assistance. One day, the administrators came into my classroom and informed me and my classmates that we had an opportunity to get a scholarship! Something they’ve never offered before in the history of the school. So basically, I attended school, got all my necessary hours and graduated Debt Free!!!! I’m so thankful and knew immediately that I have to take advantage of this amazing opportunity! I’ve been going hard for my business and brand ever since! It is my pleasure and honor serving my clients and giving them the best experience possible while sitting in my chair! I love it! It’s not just a haircut I’m promoting but a gentleman lifestyle with creeds, respect, and swagger. That’s the character I live out as well as teach.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggles where one growing my business while money wasn’t coming in. It’s one thing to go to school but it’s another thing once you graduate and get into the field. That process is very challenging but worth it! Another struggle was moving to Atlanta from St Louis. I had to learn a new city that I’ve never been in before.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I’m a Master Barber and I specialize in haircutting, styling, scalp and hair health and proper upkeep and management from my clients.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
Luck? Favor and blessed are more fitting words for my life. I couldn’t describe it any other way. I came from nothing to now servicing my clients in one of the hottest locations in Atlanta!
