Meet Caroline Dieter of Southeast Costume Company

Today we’d like to introduce you to Caroline Dieter.

Caroline, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I moved to Atlanta 15 years ago, where my career began as a photo product stylist for Macy’s.

During my time there, I met my husband who is an independent filmmaker & he introduced me to the indie film scene in Atlanta. I started costuming his films & many other indie projects at that time.

Those experiences helped me transition to a freelance lifestyle. For years, I assisted many commercial stylists & also worked as a union costumer. I learned both worlds (commercial & film) of wardrobe which gave me the opportunity to work as both a stylist and costume designer.

After several years and projects, I accumulated racks of costume stock that eventually consumed my dining room. I knew that having a warehouse of stock inventory and resources would not only be beneficial for me but for everyone in the film & tv industry, including the indie film makers.

My partner Elizabeth and I founded Southeast Costume Company in 2010. We have built a local resource where costume designers and all of the Atlanta film community can find the costumes they need to make their visions come to life on screen.

Has it been a smooth road?
I like to call the struggles, “challenging opportunities”. Owning a business is an enormous amount of work and effort. Having a partner is essential. There’s no way I could do it alone! I constantly remind myself, that whatever the problem is, we will find a solution. It may take a while, but we will get there…

We’d love to hear more about your business.
