Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolyn Horne Robins.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Carolyn. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey of Sisters of Strength the Sisterhood, begin in June 2010 when my son and I were selected to attend the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation’s mentoring camp in Dallas, Texas. After such a life changing experience it was my desire to keep the women empowered and educated in their roles as single Moms. Thus came the Sisterhood, “Sisters of Strength”. The mission was to build a sisterly bond for all women and provide a sister circle where as women we are committed to empowering, encouraging, and strengthening one another.
On February 10-12, 2012 the First Girls Getaway Weekend was held, with everyone wearing the color red representing Love and Strength! The sisters were delighted and enjoyed reuniting in fellowship. Elated by the response in Atlanta, I decided to appoint someone in each state to serve as a Captain and Co-Captain in order to assist in carrying out the vision.
A mass email was to see who would answer the called of service. Many ladies step up to the plate just like I knew they would, and such begin the chapters of Sisters of Strength. Each chapter carried their own surname that identity a specific characteristic of the brand. My titled would now be Founder and President of the organization.
At the closing of the weekend, the ladies from Illinois decided that they would host the 2013 event in Chicago, and chose to designate the color yellow representing Friendship for the weekend. “Everything Big in Chicago”, July 19-21, 2013, would empower and encourage the sisterhood to go forward as the ladies experienced another great fellowship amongst each other.
The July weekend would mark the annual engagement, and the second gathering while keeping the structure of having a good time and connecting spiritually in love and sisterhood throughout each activity.
Sisters of Strength started out very strong with the concept of the state chapters. The organization reached a total of nine active states to include: Alabama, California, Georgia, Illinois, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina, Texas and Virginia making Sisters of Strength a nationwide organization in the United States.
As time went on, life challenges and conflicts in schedule would interfere with the individual sisters’ strive to get their chapters in motion. Not to be defeated by the strain, Sisters of Power (Texas) and Sisters of Character (Illinois) would run with the vision, pressing on until their chapters were standing strong!
Sisters of Power (Texas) decided after coming to Illinois – Sisters of Characters’ event in Chicago of 2013, that they would take on the challenged and host our 2014 event in Dallas, Texas. Thus, allowing the nationwide sisters to “Paint the City Pink” in Dallas on the weekend of July 18-20, 2014.
The pink worn on this July weekend would represent the sisterhood that continues to remain. Three years of ladies gathering together has been accomplished. Endurance in opposition has displayed good character, persistence, loyalty, love and strength shown through every woman that has committed to the cause.
Year 2015 brought on changes to the order of Sisters of Strength. The sub titles were drop from each state, uniting all chapters to become one entity of Sisters of Strength.
The fourth year of Sisters of Strength brought much empowerment and spiritual liberty during the “Reflect, Release, Rejoice” Retreat 2015 held in Atlanta, GA on July 17-19, 2015. The Dream Team and I ushered the sisters into conscious a realm of unity, a renewed sense of hope, strength, love and desire to press on towards our goals and accomplish our dreams.
The weekend was filled with networking, vendors, games, workshops, prayer, entertainment, our first after-five gala and food! The sisters wore our red-pink-yellow sisterhood colors throughout the event. Each speaker complimented another with their words of empowerment and instruction. There was something for everyone to reflect, release and rejoice about.
After years of sisterhood, self-development and bonding, I wanted to revise the structure of the Sisterhood. With much prayer and obedience to God, Sisters of Strength was revamped and reestablished in 2017 and became Sisters of Strength the Sisterhood. My mission stills stands to continue to build a sisterly bond for all women and provide a sister circle where as women we are committed to empowering, encouraging and strengthening one another. On March 31, 2018, we will host of 1st Annual Strength of A Woman black tie/red carpet Celebration. were we will honored women who have exemplified their strength in their community, family and ministry.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road has not been smooth but I must say it has been rewarding. It’s never easy when you are trying to do something that you have never done before, but I was determined to not be defeated. It’s often said that women are our worst enemies to each other. I was determined to prove that women can come together support one another, love each other and celebrate each other.
Sisters of Strength the Sisterhood – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am the founder of Sisters of Strength the Sisterhood. I specialize in bringing women together and empowering them to be the best self they can be. What sets me apart from others is that my business is not my business, it’s the business of others that I’m concern about. I am an open book and I push women to be that as well. The only person who can stop you from being great is YOU!
How do I define success?
Find your gift and embrace your failure.
