Meet Casey Kelly and Joanne Fredo of The Conscious Outfit in Inman Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Casey Kelly and Joanne Fredo.

Casey and Joanne, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We met through a dinner club a few years ago and became friends since we both love fashion. Joanne’s background is fashion design and Casey’s is in luxury retail management. Last summer we both started learning about the impact of the fashion industry on our world. We learned that the average American throws out over 80 pounds of apparel each year and that is only tip of the iceberg for the negative impact. As we talked about the things, we were learning about the industry we both were making a change in our own shopping habits. The more we talked we realized that we wanted to encourage others to shop more sustainably. We also wanted to change the way people shop and create a new experience. We invited friends to attend a pop up shopping party with a curated selection for each attendee. The response was great and we continue to plan unique events and use them as a platform to help us spread the word about sustainable shopping.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We have been excited to see such a positive response to our events. As with any new business, there has been a learning curve when it comes to our events. Some are more successful than others, but we see each event as an opportunity to spread the word about shopping sustainably.

The Conscious Outfit – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
The Conscious Outfit is a curated collection of pre-loved vintage, contemporary, and original items. We take private appointments in our Inman Park Studio and throw pop up shopping parties all over the city. At our parties, we curate a selection for each attendee based on a style profile we send out prior to the event. We are known for having unique pieces and adding life to garments that may have otherwise been thrown out. We are most proud of helping people to shop pre-loved items to deter them from shopping new fast fashion items. What sets us apart is the personalized experience we provide at our parties.

We are also now offering a membership rental service. This certainly sets us apart on the local level as similar services are done by mail. We are giving people the opportunity to be the ultimate sustainable shopper. Each membership level allows the client to have an allotted value of our inventory out on loan for a monthly fee. They can mix and match items, switch out, or flex up at anytime to meet the needs of their life without ever actually buying clothes. Packages start at $20 a month.
