Today we’d like to introduce you to Dietrick Williams.
Dietrick, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Career began in healthcare, with a Masters Degree in Health Service Administration; however, always had a passion to own my own business. Though never considered to be passionate about one single industry, my interest in business ownership was broad. Started my first event management company in 1998, and a year later began investing in real estate and built a property management and investment portfolio, which I continued until 2013; after which I got into fashion. My latest ventures in the fashion and retail industry include an owner of Iridium ATL & minority owner of Speak Nation LLC, both subsidiaries of my corporate entity The Algernon Group.
Has it been a smooth road?
It’s not been a smooth road. Business ownership is never an easy road. Challenges with both financial and human capital are always some of the largest challenges. I’m fortunate that I maintain my professional job as a healthcare executive as I continue to grow the businesses of The Algernon Group.
So, what should we be on the lookout for, what’s next in store for you?
Long-term goal is to establish additional locations in Atlanta. However, my immediate goals are to continue to grow and establish the Atlanta store as a staple in the Atlanta community.
Let’s dig a little deeper into your story. What was the hardest time you’ve had?
One of the hardest time in my career was during the crisis of the real-estate market. At the time, my real estate investments were moving in the opposite direction and I wasn’t sure of the financial viability of that business venture. However, a key to any business success to develop a strategy that allows you to sustain during those valleys. I got through by quickly identifying the challenge that was upon us and quickly making business decisions that would allow me to sustain through the hard times. I also stayed a steady course and waited for the cycle to end. This caused me to delay the ventures in my retail division; however, here I am 5 years later moving forward with my vision and plans. Patience is a key to success.
What about “Wow-moments” – any moments that stick out? Any moments when you felt like you had made it?
We recently celebrated the one-year anniversary of Iridium ATL retail store. It was in that moment, (that I almost missed because I didn’t realize that a year was already upon us) I reflected and said WOW… I’ve made it a year; bills paid, doors opened and merchandise still coming in and being sold. It was a true realization that dreams can come true.
