Today, we’d like to introduce you to Catrina Maxwell.
Hi, Catrina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I started my career in photography by taking photos of my friends’ bands when they played in small clubs and bars in Atlanta. During that time, a few people encouraged me to start a photography business. I’d worked in accounting for ten years when I decided I needed to go to school if I was going to become a professional photographer. I got a degree in commercial photography from Gwinnett Technical College not long after. Over the past 20-plus years, I’ve found that I have a true passion for helping other businesses be successful through the imagery we create together. I developed my Personal Branding Experience for small business owners needing content for their websites, social media accounts, and editorial pieces. I also help the corporate world by holding portrait days at company offices so businesses have photos of their team members for their websites, social media, directories, security cards, and more. Finally, I also enjoy providing photography services to professionals in the home industry.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
The biggest struggle of my career by far, and I’m sure most small businesses would agree, has been COVID-19. Before the pandemic hit, corporate events and headshot photography made up most of my business. Both of those came to a screeching halt in March of 2020. It took me a while to get over the shock of it all. I sat in my bed scrolling Instagram, and I saw a need. I started to get to work on something I’ve loved and been inspired by the entire time I’ve been a photographer — small business branding photography. I had a lot of experience with this kind of work since I spent years photographing female entrepreneurs for editorial pieces for StyleBlueprint and knew how beneficial it could be for businesses and their marketing. After completing a comprehensive course in branding photography, I started the hustle to get the word out there about my new offering. I absolutely love seeing my images help small business owners up-level their brands.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
CatMax Photography specializes in every type of imagery a business needs to succeed. The Personal Branding Experience is perfect for the small business owner longing to tell their story and elevate their brand. We also work with larger businesses to host private Professional Portrait Days for their staff and associates. CatMax Photography also holds public Professional Portrait Days for anyone seeking high-quality, modern headshots and other photos of themselves for business. Interior photography is also one of our core services, and we work closely with many local interior designers, architects, and builders. Lastly, we enjoy capturing events for local businesses as well.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
I distinctly remember my parents putting a camera in my hands when I was around eight years old. My Barbies and Cabbage Patch Kids were the subjects of lots of photoshoots back then. I’m not sure why it took me until I was in my 20s to figure out photography is my calling, but I’m so glad I did.
