Meet Cay Williams of A Tipsy Monologue in Sandy Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cay Williams.

Cay, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I am Lyrical Freedom, 26 years old, currently walking through this thing called life and also reaching out to a population of beautiful souls. Even though my name is Cay, I have been going by Lyrical Freedom for six years now. Lyrical Freedom was inspired by my creativity, and it means being free of harm, using your life as a story and defining who self is in words. I came up with Lyrical Freedom because I’m also heavily into recording music, and I have a song on Apple music as well as Spotify called A.N.L. So, everyone should go check that out as well. I started my podcast “A Tipsy Monologue” in February this year. I have always been a talker and probably a darn good communicator in my life. I decided to become what you would call, an advocate for young people, to inspire them and show them, even when we have pain, we do not have to go towards the darkness. We can find light within ourselves as long as we continue to strive for our purpose in life and what motivates us as we evolve. My podcast “A Tipsy Monologue,” is an outlet for myself and others but it started because I needed something I could be passionate about and call my own. Podcasting is just like writing music to me. Podcasting allows freedom of expression to be literally just that, freedom. People probably are wondering how I decided on the name A Tipsy Monologue. Ok so, when someone is tipsy, they usually become more comfortable and speak their minds without thinking about the consequences, and the podcast episodes embody just that, topics on everything! A monologue is a long dialogue of speech in a broadcast program. So together, A Tipsy Monologue is the power to entertain and inspire anyone listening on different topics and issues we all have faced or will face in the world we live in today.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No, it has not been a smooth road. Particularly because of the reason I even started the podcast. Like I said before, I needed an outlet but it was due to not knowing my purpose and what motivated me as a 25 year, at that particular time. Starting the podcast was easy because I knew what I wanted to say, but never knew how to talk about it without feeling like I would be judged. My podcast allowed me to be more confident as well as becoming comfortable in sharing pieces of myself no one knew anything about. One struggle that sticks out the most is topics. Finding topics is very hard because when doing a podcast, you want to be excited and intrigued about your own work to continue to do it every week. Another struggle would probably be time. I am a mental health counselor currently, and am in my master’s program full time, and when I get home or have a break from school and work, some times I am mentally drained. What keeps me going and not giving up on my craft or my project, is hope. Hope to one day finally reach many, many people and to make a difference in someone’s life.

Please tell us more about what you do, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
My podcast is still fresh, in its first year and still trying to pick up listeners. I am the sole owner of my podcast and currently am trying to give my podcast a different look to reach more listeners. I am proud of my faithful listeners and support system. I am proud to have people ask me, “Hey, are you coming out with another episode soon?” or ” Please don’t give up you can do this.” I would not be where I am today without my support system. I believe what sets me apart from other people, is the sure will to never give up and to finally tell my story even if it appears no one heard it, I know I reached someone.

What were you like growing up?
WOW! Growing up? I would say I was sensitive, very creative with my music and drama, lol. I was always so eager to meet people and make new friends and continue to grow as a person. I was very intuitive and needed to learn constantly about things that interested me. I’m a Gemini, enough said right? So, I’m stubborn but I learned sometimes in a healthy setting, stubbornness turns in to determination at an early age. I come to realize as I got older, singing, songwriting, and talking to help people was literally all I ever wanted to do, even now.
