Meet Barmel Lyons

Today we’d like to introduce you to Barmel Lyons. She and her team share her story with us below.

Please kick things off for us with some background on Barmel’s story.
Barmel Lyons is a woman of many talents, a Freelance News and Traffic Reporter with CBS 46 News, Co-Founder and Co-host of The Vision and Vibes Podcast, T.V. Host/ Red Carpet Entertainment Correspondent, Influencer, Motivational Speaker and Entrepreneur with a passion for all thing’s media.

She is originally from the Sunshine State, where she attended The University of Central Florida, graduating with a bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and a minor in Sociology, “Go Knights!”

Today she is a Georgia Peach, and is ecstatic to take over Atlanta, a place she now calls home!

Barmel has always maintained an optimistic and positive mindset, no matter the circumstance. Her drive and determination to defy all odds, not for others, but herself, enables her to constantly push the envelope for all things bigger and better. As a First-Generation Jamaican/American, she is inspired most by her parents who have taught her hard work and diligence. They have always encouraged her to push past mediocrity, give back and lead her community on a larger scale.

Before moving to Atlanta, Barmel worked and interned with well-renowned local news outlets and radio stations in Orlando, Florida such as: FOX 35, WESH2, CW, EstrellaTV, and CBS Radio on MIX 105.1 and 101.9 AMP. In addition to working and interning, Barmel managed to juggle school, uphold the role of President of the UCF Chapter of the National Association of Black Journalists and serve as the T.V. Host for “News Pop”’ Orlando’s source for positive hyper local news.

The turning point in her career was when she landed an internship with NBC Universal’s “TODAY Show”. This opportunity allowed her to see media on a network level, formulate relationships and gain unmatched knowledge. Barmel says, “Experiencing that internship made me realize that bigger is always attainable, which is why exposing the youth to the “What if’s”/ dreams are so important it makes them come to terms with the fact that they can achieve the EPIC!” Barmel graduated in 2017 and moved to Georgia less than a week after to work with “FOX24/ABC16 WGXA News”.

There she acted as the lead morning reporter, live desk anchor, producing/ co-producing a 4-hour show under tight deadlines. With this being her first market, she took full advantage of every opportunity. She says, “I would drive almost every weekend to Atlanta from Macon to network, speak at local events, and create a foundation for when I moved to the heart of the city.” After almost two years of working at FOX24/ABC16 WGXA News, Barmel stepped out on faith and moved to Atlanta. “I moved to Atlanta in April 2019. The funny thing is I had no solid plan on where I would live, work, etc. I just had faith that God had bigger in store; that I must obey his word, stay consistent and have FAITH.”

By September 2019, she began working at “CBS46 NEWS”.

Barmel says, “For me this was huge. I catapulted from market 119 to a top 10 News Market. I say this to identify how much I believe in myself and what I bring to the table. I was fortunate enough to have people SEE me and give me an opportunity to shine.” Barmel went on to say that the journey up to this point is book worthy. “It took hard work but more that it took faith in knowing that it was already written.” Her experience charged her to take on a personal campaign to constantly #RaisetheBAR.

Since living in Atlanta, she has reported on the red carpet, curated a successful brunch, spoken at a multitude of events and launched her first passion project The Vision and Vibes Podcast – a podcast meant to inspire, challenge and motivate you to live your best life, all while securing the vision and embracing the vibes.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Everyone has a story and mine is book worthy! I came from humble beginnings, and up to this point, the road has definitely been bumpy. On the journey to success, there will be detours, delays, distractions, disappointments, and delights, but the reality is… comfortable people don’t grow, change, dream, plan, risk or explore. Your greatest opportunities to grow are ones that leave you leaning on God trying to figure out what’s next. Understanding that struggle builds character and the pain that you endure today produces a new strength that you can enjoy tomorrow. One of the sayings that have always stuck with me is this… Failure does not define you; it prepares you!

Alright, let’s talk business. What should we know about you and what you’re currently focused on?
My brand is the business. I aspire to be a media mogul who constantly pushes the envelope and reaches new heights. In my line of work, I am most recognized for my ability to shoot, write, edit and adapt content across all platforms, to create and innovative original and engaging enterprise stories on-air and on digital platforms. My eye for strong visuals and contagious energy creates bonds with millions of viewers and listeners. I am most passionate about people; Not just serving my community but uplifting it. The Vision and Vibes Podcast created by Taylor Winbush and I was an opportunity for us to be that change we wanted to see. We create life changing content that empowers men and women to unlock their creativity, stretch out of their comfort zone and break through barriers to live their best life!”
